Thread Details

It's that time of year again when Garage sales are popular. I have seen some discussion of Garage Sales in regular discussion threads, and perhaps there is talk of it in the BS thread, but I think it would be good to have it's own thread and people can add in the WIKI what sold for them and at what price - or what they will sell it for.

This way people having a garage sale can have a nice reference sheet and can learn from the mistakes of others. I will post in the WIKI info I have read.

Yes, I am having a garage sale this weekend at a friends work. I have read some info on another site and it is nice that they have their own thread for this.

Garage sales are not for everyone, please no bashing on those who wish to do it. It's a way to make money to buy more coupons and fuel your 'addiction'. LOL!

Mods, if you think this would be better suited in a different forum, please advise or move. I just thought it would be good to have a garage sale discussion and a WIKI to boot to help others.

Thanks!

Vicki

PLEASE NOTE: This WIKI is a reference guide to price the items you may have. Know your states laws before selling new unopened items or medicine. Laws vary from state to state, and can from city to city on what is allowed to be sold at a garage sale or flea market. Sell at your own risk. Thanks!

Garage Sale Tips:
- Use a muffin tin to keep coin denominations separated.
- A fishing tackle box is a great way to keep money safe and organized - coins separated in the compartments, and bills underneath. Some even have locks
- Use a carpenter's apron with pockets in the front. Works great, bills and .5 and .10 on one side, .25 on the other. It goes with you, for safety and convenience. Works great for school concession stands too..

Prices here in the wiki show a range of prices SDers have gotten for each product/item.

*Please post what you sold items at in your individual post - and if you are in a big metropolis or not - this sometimes makes a difference.*

Has anybody asked you if what's inside is the real stuff? I had one ask me if the body wash is real. I had to ask what she meant and that's when she said is it the real stuff. I don't have time to find empty bottles and refill it with whatever.

Are Friday sales worth it?
I was thinking of taking Friday off work for my next sale and doing Fri/Sat 8-12 but want to make sure Friday is worth it. Who goes to a GS on a Friday morning? I know I never would but that is because I work...like most of the population, I am guessing.
I would never hesitate to do a Friday sale, even Thursday started to be a great thing. This is when I lived in TX. I would NEVER do Sunday. I am in FL now and still Fri and even Thurs are good, but lots of people do them on Sunday. I haven't tried Sunday but just because 2 days are plenty for me.

Has anyone had any luck selling the items from the Staples ad this week? Pencil boxes, eraser caps, highlighters, pencils? I was thinking of putting a quarter on each and see if any sell.

I've been asked that before. It's annoying, but I don't get mad. I just explain that I'm a coupon shopper and that usually takes care of it. The one that makes me laugh are the ones that ask if I used to own a store.

I have no problems at all selling laundry detergent...HE, regular or pods. People seem to prefer Tide, but will buy just about anything. I sell the 75 oz Tides for $7 each and they FLY off the shelf. I just started limiting the number people can buy so that more of my customers get a chance to get some.

School supplies are a big hit for me year round, even with the penny items I usually mark them (depending what they are) starting at .50. My biggest seller is Bic pens ($1) and the pads of paper (.50) hth.

Where do you get deals on the large sizes that make them profitable? I'm only ever able to get the smaller (or I guess mid-sized) ones in deals like CVS this week.
