AT&T has a promotion at Best Buy where if you add any phone capable of going on Postpaid service you can receive a $200 giftcard. This is a no term commitment and you simply bring your own phone starting service with them and you can reap the benefits of the giftcard. I talked to several At&t representatives and they confirmed this deal and I am assuming this is in-store only.

YMMV on Best buy's knowledge of their own promotions but you can go instore and confirm for yourself. I witnessed customers getting prepaid phones and activating them on postpaid service and getting several giftcards.

There is no hard end date as BYOD is not a promotion however the giftcards may end at some unforeseeable point in the future.

Don't forget to rep your op!

DEAL OF THE CENTURY!!! Smilie remember to rep OP!

If you have been charged activation or any erroneous charge on your bill and you canceled within 3 days of activation:

Call or online chat with ATT, they should cancel out your fees and you SHOULD be charged $0 (or a prorated daily charge for the lines of service for the days you had the lines active). You should not be charged any activation fee. If you canceled within 3 days and your bill shows service for more than 3 days, call or chat with ATT and they SHOULD correct your charges and you should owe $0 (or a prorated daily charge for the lines of service for the days you had the lines active). IF this does not work, call back/chat as many times as you like. If you want to push the issue, you can file a Notice of Dispute form [att.com] which should resolve the issue within 30 days.

It appears ATT's practice is to charge you for service past 3 days and charge activation fees while knowing you canceled within 3 days. It appears ATT's billing system does not allow billing for less than 4 days of service, thus the reason you are getting a bill when you should not be. This is a known issue and any good phone/chat rep will know of and take care of the issue without hassle.

What is the offer ?

FREE $200 Bestbuy GC. As many GCs as the system allows you and you are eligible for. No strings attached. Interested ? Proceed.

Steps to replicate this deal:

Step 1

Do you have an existing AT&T Mobile Value Shared Plan ?

Yes - Go to next step.

Are you ready to get a credit check with hard pull ?

No - Good Bye. Exit.

Step 2

Are you okay to lose $30 per $200 GC for paying towards SIM card to avoid driving around ?

Yes - Go to next step.

No - Go to nearest AT&T store and get as many SIM cards as you can. No hard and fast rule on how/what to ask. YMMV. Can be waste of gas and time. Mostly does not work.

Step 3

Do you have enough number of physical mobile devices as per eligibility list at the end of wiki ?

Yes - Go to next step.

No - Try to buy some burner phones (and return later) or get IMEIs from friends or family. Offer will be YMMV.

Step 4

Go to Bestbuy. Tell the blue shirt at mobile department you want to open a new AT&T account with you own device (or add new lines to your existing AT&T account). Don't need to ask about promotion, gift card. Just begin with 1 line. If something is wrong you can't get new line activated, you can try using imei of another phone. Sometimes it works. If everything goes well and you get the $200 gift card printed.

Success ?

Just ask, aha, that's great, can I open more lines, open as many lines as they allow.

Failure ? Error ?

IMEI not found ?

If your phone/IMEI doesn't work suggest the store to scan in an IMEI from an AT&T go phone in store and then switch back the IMEI once the lines are activated

Other errors ?

If they stop you or something wrong, just leave. It's up to you if you want to go another store to try more.

Step 5

If you don't get gift card in step 4 when trying open the 1st line. Just call AT&T same day and tell them you just opened a new line and find you didn't get any promotion while you find good promotion at (cash back site, at&t store, at&t website). So you want to cancel it and reopen it later. If you get gift cards in step 4, it's up to you to cancel all lines or just keep them. Even you want to keep those lines, it's a good idea to call to cancel to try to get some retention offer: such as 5 lines /15G/$135 month.

IMEI Check

https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/byop.html -- this is NOT reliable. VZW Moto E fails, but is accepted in-store. Read FAQ below.

Tips

For dual SIM phones, you might have 2 IMEIs.

For people have problem complain on bestbuy official forums, http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best...csstorep14

Register for MyATT [att.com] if you open up a new AT&T account. Once signed in, you can use the Chat feature (click on support, you will see a chat box appear in the bottom right of the screen) to cancel lines, should you desire. Mention that you want to cancel the line, and the number, and they should be able to do it for you within minutes. Log out and log back in to confirm the line no longer appears on your account. There does not seem to be any minimum time between activation and cancellation, but, it is recommended to wait a short while before doing so to avoid attention.

Once a phone has been cancelled, its IMEI is now free and in theory could be reused Wink

Issue adding lines in store?
MSG 110: Bestbuy is not allowing activation of these lines....Do not call the carrier or the Bridge..... ask customer to reach out to carrier directly".

If anyone is repeatedly getting this error message when trying to add new lines in store, it is likely an issue with your account being flagged in BB's system and has nothing to do with AT&T. I would suggest making a post over on the Best Buy forums HERE [bestbuy.com] to make them aware of this issue affecting many of us.

Update 1/7:

Response I received from corporate regarding MSG 110 error:
Quote :
Thank you for your patience while I looked into this for you.

After working with my support teams and the store's general manager, we will be unable to approve your phone(s) for activation within our stores. I understand that this is not the resolution that you were hoping for and I do offer my sincere apologies.

Regrettably, the only option we can offer would be for you to activate these lines through AT&T's retail outlets.
Do not have error number but when choosing mobile phone number the system gave an error. My original contract line was from NY and I was trying to get a TX area code. I asked them to try getting me a NY number and it worked. WEIRD but true.

They also seem to want to have both PASSCODE and the last 4 of SSN when BB had to call AT&T Fraud department. I didn't have any way to get around that and caved in with the SSN info despite having a passcode setup on the account

I would like to remind anyone looking to do this that you most probably will be getting a hard pull (hp) on your credit report. Not very lucrative for a hp. You can get much more value out of several credit card apps, the att access more card will get you $650 towards a new att phone for example.

Hard pull hit is over rated.
And the att citi card deal is OK at best.

If this deal is true then this is crazy hot.

I have room for four more lines, going to try the BYOD. This should be epic if it works. TU OP bounce

Soooo, it sounds like I could bring in a couple of these cheapo android smartphones I had laying around (planning on a video surveillance system), and maybe get $200 per activation on my existing AT&T service? The only issue I see here is that my nearest Best Buy is terminally awful about screwing up your AT&T account, and will likely end up with you under a contract for each line.

I had trouble activating one prepaid lumina phone, just giving no package error at activation step.

Activation fee is not free, is it? Plus the 1st month's fee, taxes and all that sh*t, it's basically around $100 gift card for visiting the store and activating a line.

I have premier plan with corporate discount, so activation should be free for me. Will report back, heading to store soon... Additional line BYOD are about $21 a month after taxes for me. If there are no term limits and I can cancel immendiately. I see no reason to pay the full month with BYOD. This may be able to be rinse and repeat, however that may be optimistic.
