Guess they realized they needed at least three decent car people to offset the idiocy of Evans. I think they made some good choices, but still won't watch the show as long as Evans is on it, the guy is an asshat.

*snip* British former Formula One driver David Coulthard, German motor racing driver Sabine Schmitz and British motoring journalist Chris Harris will join Chris Evans as the show's new presenters [thesun.co.uk], The Sun reported. *snip* However, long-time fans will recognise Schmitz, a BMW and Porsche driver, from her past appearances alongside Clarkson. The pair took part in a Top Gear challenge in 2004, that saw each drive a Jaguar S-Type diesel around Germany's Nürburgring, with Schmitz beating Clarkson's time by 47 seconds. She later returned to make good on a promise to race a van around the track in a time similar to Clarkson's. The British motoring series was originally hosted by Angela Rippon from 1977 to 1979, and since then has had many female presenters, including Sue Baker in the 1980s and Julia Bradbury in the 1990s. Harris is a journalist who has written for many car publications, the Daily Mail reported. He also has his own car review channel on YouTube [youtube.com], with 321,000 subscribers. Coulthard drove for Williams in F1 during 1994 and 1995. From 1996-2004 he drove from McLaren after which he joined Red Bull. He retired from Formula One in 2008, and has since become a BBC motorsport commentator. The news coincided with two senior staff quitting: executive producer Lisa Clark and script editor Tom Ford. *snip* http://www.smh.com.au/entertainme...l |

I can see the rational at the BBC, 'He was on a comedy show, so he'll be a funny guy to add some wit to the show'.
No, he's an actor who read lines on a comedy show, it's not the same thing BBC.

I think he will do alright though I am much more excited for Clarkson's new Amazon show and Florida grapefruits are superior to Texas.
You also need to read "The man in the white suit" it was an easy read and quite enjoyable for any TG UK fan. He recounts some moments from some of the better episodes.
Like I said, down to $4 on the kindle editon so I finally jumped on it.

1. Chris Evans from BBC radio - useless pile but might be a good host at keeping things moving
2. Eddie Jordan, former owner of Jordan F1 and former BBC/Sky F1 commentator. Shoe aficionado.
3. Sabine Schmitz - fastest woman around the 'ring, creator of vomit trails, fastest semi driver in the world
4. Chris Harris - internet superstar, decent racecar driver, size of a leprechaun.
5. Matt LeBlanc - American actor who actually is a well known car and motorcycle guy as well as amateur racer. plus he actually acts a little like an idiot sometimes just because he can.
6. Rory Reid - former Editor-in-Chief of the car and gadget site Recombu who also used to host Sky1's show Gadget Geeks and do some talking on BBC Radio 5 Live. Wrote and perfromed the Rolls Royce Ghost rap.

I see Clarkson's new show on Amazon finally has a name:
http://www.telegraph.c
I'm more looking forward to that show than the recycled Top Gear. There are a couple of video trailers about naming the show that are mildly amusing and worth the watch. The show should be starting this fall.
I've been at least somewhat entertained by Top Gear US lately. Being a hands-on car guy I like that most of the cars on the show are something that I can relate to. While I always like Top Gear UK better overall in reality most of the cars are something that I will never see or have a chance to drive or work on. The US show hits the market that it is in pretty well and the hosts have become a pretty good team and do the humor part of the show just about right.

Edit: Meant to say too, you should check out Fourth Gear, they do a car show with more of the types of cars you and I can afford, it's very good too.
