And yet you can do it anyway, depends on the airline which method works best however.

I took a chance despite the warning. I figured the worst case scenario was that I could sell the gift card. And like I said, I was credited within a week.

United with the MPX app, got a $100 amazon gift card reimbursed- was a couple months ago so I suppose YMMV today
