Local selling apart from Craigslist ?

rak007 5,673 626 December 27, 2015 at 07:42 PM
I need to know what are other popular websites and apps I can use for some local selling apart from craigslist. I cannot do ebay so only local in person exchange is possible so local selling only.
I am using CL a lot but I just wanted more visibility so I am also using some apps like OfferUp, 5miles and Wallapop.

Any other options which are actually used by people ?

FYI: There's a local pick up option on ebay that you can use.

I tried LetGo and it was worse than OfferUp... very little activity.

I think Craigslist is still the king.

cheap, fast, good - pick any two.

PSA: Yahoo email is extremely insecure...switch to Gmail if you can!! Hotmail is better but not as good as Gmail.

I think it depends on your location, because I have been trying out both the 5Miles app as well as the Close5 app (I believe this one is eBay owned/funded) and Close5 this far has very little activity and is a bit more annoying in its use, while I have had a lot of activity on Close5. Haven't tried OfferUp or any of the other apps and really just want one to emerge as the de facto because entering ads in one is enough work let alone craigslist.

Craigslist has been dead for me the last year or so, and even before that has just gone to garbage - nothing but spam and delusional sellers asking insane prices along with nothing but scammers and extreme lowball era on the opposite side. I haven't spotted an actual decent deal (and that's for all of LA/SoCal) in well over a year on Craigslist, whereas before I was scoring amazing deals quite often and good to great ones at least every week. Then it dried up slowly but surely to a trickle then not even worth checking.

Is there any way or place to track app downloads/adoption as a way to gauge the selling app popularity? Ie get the total nbers of app downloads/usage across Apple and android devices for 5Miles, OfferUp, LetGo, Close5, Wallapop, kijiji etc.?

Here in my area, we have "Garage Sale" Facebook pages for local sellers. My wife and I have sold tons of items this way. Baby items, clothes, furniture, XBox 360, TVs, Books, etc. It's better than CL because you can look at history and people will vouch for others and report about bad sellers.

We have 2 radio stations that offer free weekend advertising. Maybe your area has a radio station that does the same thing?
