As someone pointed out, a random seller did offer this product for a lesser price before shipping. This hardly justifies giant red text. Here are a few reasons why.

1.) The cost before shipping doesn't matter.
2.) The seller's reputation (or lack thereof) does matter.
3.) The deals availability inside the current realm of reality also matters.

No. Officially. Past SL'ers have noted that you can unscrew part of the toner and add toner to it by hand, as long as you don't let it run out. Otherwise, no, there is no generic cartridges.
The printer is not bad, the instructions are written like an Ikea assembly guide and it's easy to get confused on the wireless. But it's a $25 laser printer that can spit out pages quickly, so there's that.

cheap printer, but not so cheap toner cartridges. it has chipped toner cartridges and there is no 3rd party for the chips yet (ever?).

bought one before. toner lasts a while. I was able to get a toner for about $26 a few months back through a slick deal. haven't noticed it at that price since though. I would rather be able to buy toner instead of a new printer every time. just extra wasteful of resources in my opinion.

I can never get WiFi working for more than 1 day at a time. Wish I had gotten a Canon laserjet instead.

This is probably the fourth time I've seen this printer on sale and every time, I've been on the fence about buying it due to the toner. What's the deal with this printer? Will I be able to buy generic toner off ebay and refill it myself?

Bought one of these the last time and just recently set it up. I thought the setup was a breeze. I didn't bother with the disk and just downloaded the latest from their site. Start the installation, plug in the printer when prompted, let it do its thing. Then if you want wireless, just find the start menu folder and click the link for wireless setup. Follow the instructions (select network, enter password) and it creates a new printer to be used wirelessly. It didn't set this as the default printer so I had to do this manually. I think it might have taken 10 minutes to setup. I haven't done much printing with it but it printed the test page super fast.

went ahead and bought it. Hope AirPrint works on this like some people say it does even though it doesn't advertise it.

the toner cartridge has a chip on it that counts pages. when it gets to 0 it wont work any more and trying to add toner to it is not going to work. then you have to buy another toner cartridge for around $30.
