Why in gods name would you ever do that. The name of the game is surface area and you're not increasing that at all by stacking filters on top of each other.

Your 4" filter looks something like this:
WWWW

Your 1" stack of 4 looks like this:

Your blower and your ducts hate you.

You're right; the $5/$50 coupon from signing up for HD mobile alerts is for in-store purchases only. I've removed the incorrect info from the OP.

Are there any deals ever posted for the big 4" filters or always the 1"? I have a new home and no longer use the 1" and never payed attention on deals for the larger filters.

Wow, is there such a thing as 4 inch thick filter for home?
Last time I bought nobrand 20*20*1 filters it was supposed to be 1inch thick but it was actually 0.7 inch making it a little loose.

edit: There are 4 inch thick filters... just googled. lol. Too bad it's not on sale.

But then air flow might be a problem. Besides the first filter will always get all the dust and clog quickly. If flow isn't a problem he could maybe throw away the oldest one each month kind of like a FIFO. I wish my car had interior air filters this big.

airflow is a problem with a 4" filter. I use two 1" ones and then toss the first one away after a couple of weeks and rotate the one that was in back of it to the front and place a new one in back. Of course, it helps that I bought 125 filters from meijer for about $40 on clearance so I tend to replace faster than most people...
