41,039 2,061 February 11, 2016 at 10:14 AM in Finance
Wife's 50th birthday is Sunday, 2/14 (she'd love that I shared that :lol)

Chocolate-dipped strawberries delivered today
Picking up flowers for her tomorrow
Dinner out Saturday night (dining out on Valentine's Day sucks)
Gifts on Sunday. The "big" gift is a trip to Europe this summer, which she already knows about.

Whee

ibt "look at me" etc.

Marrying someone born on the that day is probably the smartest thing you ever did, should have married her on that day too & killed 3 gifts every year.

Haven't researched yet...I'm a planner, and I've been told it's best to plan out what we want to do each day for efficient use of our time. Usually our vacations are at the beach, and it's a struggle for me to NOT want to plan daily activities. Smilie
Check out the Rick Steves website for some tips on avoiding the lines at the major attractions. The lines in Paris, at Versailles and at the Vatican can be horrendous otherwise.

Thanks. I was expecting crazy lines at the major attractions, especially in the summer.

Yeah, we did a "skip the line" tour of the vatican. You meet across the street and go right in when it's time. You can also leave the tour at any time, you just give back your headset and do your own thing. Highly recommend. The line for admission when we were leaving seemed awful. Good way to get heat stroke.

From personal experience, watch out for pickpockets around the Colosseum and on the Rome subways. Also, avoid most of the restaurants/cafes near the Colosseum - the food at every one we tried was crappy.

The Vatican was awesome. Definitely worth it. If you don't get a scheduled tour time, get there early.

Rick Steves gave some good tips for Paris - we went to one of the cafes he recommended and met plenty of American tourists but also had good food and wine.

On the day you fly in, check if your hotel will let you check in early or at least hold your stuff since I'm guessing you guys will arrive in the morning.

When did this turn into the "MLV going to Europe" thread? laugh out loud

Many attractions not have time-based tickets you can buy in advance online. Otherwise, buy "skip the line" tours in advance on places like viator.com, etc. We did two weeks in France last year and didn't wait in any lines.

You can also access the Louvre through an underground mall where the line is very minimal.

Well there is the phrase "Twig and Berries" so that's not stretching things too much other than it implies he actually has some Berries Roll
