AT&T's prepaid subsidiary Cricket Wireless is launching a new plan on Sunday, April 17. It offers unlimited talk, text and data for one smartphone line for $70 a month, $65 on autopay. This looks like an obvious attempt by ATT to counter T-Mobile's latest offer. $100 bill credit when you switch from T-Mobile. For all others its the $25 referral credit as usual - reach out to existing cricket customers for being referred.
(mod note: referrals are not allowed on SD, so don't post one or ask for one here)

A lot of no-contract, pre-paid MVNO's offer the same for less.

It is indeed LTE - we do know that ATT caps the cricket LTE speeds, so that is always there. Otherwise I don't see any catch at first read. which mvno has similar plan?

Download speeds max 8Mbps (LTE)/4Mbps(4G). Mobile Hotspot feature not avail. Activ./upgrade (up to $25)

I think for that price though cricket should remove the data speed cap.

Of course it is. That's why it's not unlimited.

What is the T-Mobile offer that this is meant to counter? I guess it's not that obvious to me.

MetroPCS (which has a roughly analogous relationship to T-Mobile as Cricket has to AT&T) already has an unlimited LTE plan for $60/mo. The other two T-Mobile affiliated prepaid options (GoSmart Mobile and T-Mobile Prepaid) don't offer unlimited 4G/LTE.

If there trying to compete with metropcs they definitely need to remove the data speed cap as metropcs doesn't have one.

It's a great deal but not slick enough for me to change my two 20 gigs for $55 each Cricket lines to the new plan. But don't let the data cap stop you, I use all 40 gigs to stream Netflix and Sling in HD.

Legal tethering is usually a $10.00 per month up-charge.
