Thread Details

Got the following e-mail, and I also called the 800 number. They'll be completely shut down in two weeks, and the web site is already shut down.

"Dear Loyal Customer,

Today Sport Chalet will begin the process of closing all of our stores and will stop selling merchandise online. Store closing sales will begin at the open of business today and continue over the next several weeks, offering customers the opportunity to take advantage of great sales. Our online store will stop selling merchandise on April 16th, but you may visit our website, www.SportChalet.com to find the location closest to you.

Sport Chalet gift cards, rewards certificates and store credits will be honored in Sport Chalet stores through April 29th, 2016. Customers who are unable to visit us before this date are invited to transfer gift card balances to a gift card from one of our sister stores, Eastern Mountain Sports or Bob's Stores through July 29th, 2016. To transfer your balance, please contact customer service at (888) 801-9162 and an agent will assist you.

We also ask that you pick up any equipment that had been left in one of our stores for repair no later than April 29th, 2016 and ask you to return Sport Chalet rental equipment before this date.

Thank you for your loyalty over the years. We hope to see you at our store closing sales."
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Here is the link for more info. Sports Chalet discontinued online sales as of today and began closeout sales at all their retail stores. The company only has retail stores in CA, NV, AZ, and UT. Likely some good deals to be had ---- but these OOB sales often have limited discounts initially.

First day is usually lackluster, maybe the last week will be promising.

Not entirely surprised, but at the same time didn't hear anything until now. Shocking in itself that it wasn't a long and drawn out death.

I went to the local store in Palmdale, CA and they said the doors were closing on April 29th.

Yeah took a spin out there just now, 10%. They gave more discounts when they weren't going out of business.

Just an FYI, when businesses go out of sale, they apparently sell their assets to liquidators who initially raise prices and then issue a discount, which often times ends up being pricier than regular sale prices. I would wait until 1-2 weeks before the stores close. Of course, the downside is that by then, there will be a limited selection of merchandise. YMMV.

This is very important to some like me, I have $100 gift card I need to spend! Why did the mods mark this EXPIRED and moved this to Deal Talk??

I just saw the news and wanted to post it but I noticed this thread is already here.

Mods please re-activate this thread! Arent 90% of slickdealers including the founders from LA and Vegas anyway? haha

According to this news:
http://www.latimes.com/business/l...story.html

The gift cards can be used at Bob's, here is a $20 off $100 coupon page: (Use Coupon 110717 online)
http://www.bobstores.com/coupon-landing

I am hoping for California I can get free shipping (on orders of $49 or more), 20 off 100 coupon and no sales tax! I will try it when I find the darn gift card.

Also directly from their website, you can transfer the gift cards if you don't get a chance to buy something you wanted :

I stopped by the Costa Mesa, CA store and everything was 10% off. Prices seemed a bit marked up also. This reminds me of when Circuit City also went out of business. Everything was marked up until the last day or so.

I originally posted this in deal talk, not a lot of hot deals to be had. Why it got marked "expired" is anyone's guess.

Probably because SD has 0% chance of making any affiliate sales off of this. Not that it's even a factor, just got back from my local Sports Chalet. Everything is marked 10% off MSRP .. LOL. The prices are literally the highest cost of any retailer right now. The sad part was that it was crowded and line was long with a bunch of ignorant people with arms full of "deals". Fool and his money .. yadda yadda.
