It's really 2 different worlds in terms of gear that's completely driven on what type of shooting you do. The A6000/A6300 is probably the better choice for most consumers who are looking to get into an interchangeable camera experience. It has the better "Auto" experience, with the fastest AF available in mirrorless, and some of the fastest on any camera in general. TLDR version is, it's more dummy proof when it comes to taking photos.

The Sony lens lineup IMO, is the weakest aspect about buying into Sony. They have some really good lenses, but the best performing lenses are priced into the stratosphere like their Canon/Nikon counterparts, and tend to be oddly large and heavy which completely negate one of the core advantages of buying into a mirrorless system. Overall IQ on the "consumer" grade glass for E-Mount is good, but definitely not top tier.

Fuji cameras can operate just fine in full auto, but the AF on the X-T1 is noticeably slower vs the A6000/A6300 and can degrade even more depending on which fuji lens is on the body. Luckily, manual focus on the X-T1 is one of the best out there, but is not for the consumer auto-mode person.

The greatest strengths of buying into Fuji is the lens selection/quality and the overall image quality. Fuji has created an absolutely epic lineup of prime lenses in only a few years, every single one match or outperform their FF pro-grade Canon/Nikon counterpart both in overall image quality AND in construction quality (all Fuji primes are made of metal ). The Fuji 16-55 f2.8 and 55-140mm f2.8 are both easily on par with their Canon L lens counterpart (can't speak for Nikon, I used to be a Canon guy). The biggest kicker is, all of Fuji lenses are CONSIDERABLY less than other systems (more than half in some instances). Take for instance hte 16-55 f2.8 (24-70 equiv.). That lens on Canon, Nikon, and the new Sony 24-70 sell for 2200-2400 new. Fuji's sells for 1000-1200 new. The AF is just as fast (if not faster, but limited by the body), and the IQ is just as good.

Personally, I've become a big user of primes after switching to Fuji. I don't really get Sony's mirrorless strategy because there were 2 huge driving reasons on the adoption of mirrorless. No AA filter (meaning theoretically sharper images), and size reduction. Sony glass is so large and heavy, once you put it on anything, even something as small as an a6000, half the value proposition of mirrorless goes away. If you stick with consumer grade lenses on the A6000, I think it makes a lot more sense.

They're both great cameras. The new a6300 is an absolute beast, esp. in AF performance. I've considered picking one up and just sticking a medium telephoto on it purely for the AF performance (have kids). For sure you will shoot more "keepers" on the Sony.

If you go Fuji, there's a certain magic quality to it's images. I love the fact that I don't have to sit in front of Lightroom and spend hours processing photos now. Jpegs out of the body are absolutely AMAZING. The built in film simulations are simply the best in the business. I can't wait to get my hands on the new B/W simulations on the incoming X-T2.

In the end its up to you. Ask yourself this question. Are you looking for a camera because you're interested JUST in the photos it will take, or are you looking for a camera because you're also interested in the shooting EXPERIENCE. If you're looking for an experience, go Fuji, if you're looking for consistently good photos ONLY go A6000.

*footnote: X-T1 video is poo poo, so if video is a top priority for you, def. go with Sony A series.

Fuji has some of the best out-of-camera JPEGs. Lenses are expensive. Something to consider.

Don't think so, this is gray market (says in the listing "Import Model"). Which means no warranty.

Low prices like this on gray market items are pretty common. As with any gray market photo gear, if you decide to buy, I'd immediately assume that the unauthorized seller that provides a 1-year "Seller" warranty is null and void. i.e. they won't do anything for you.

Don't compare vs the 1,299 price. Fujifilm stuff drops in price almost like clockwork, at least 2-3 times a year. During those times, you can get this new for 999 pretty much anywhere, so not as big of a discount compared to that.

I'd predict next big discount would coincide with the X-T2 announcement in June, only a couple months away.

Great lenses are expensive and Fuji's lenses are fantastic. Well worth the money.

Sony used to be crazy with discounts as well, not anymore now that I have gotten rid of most of my gear. I'm depressed.

If you plan on any action like kids running around, probably Sony. Otherwise Fuji.

Fuji is not bad for kids running towards you. I can take 8 out of 10 shots in focus at f1.4. Sony are nice but I wish they had nice fast lenses for that A6000. Maybe they do and I just don't know.

True. Some people just like to have cheap options. I kind of want to sell my Sony a7 and FE system to go Fuji. Either that or sell the A7 body and get a Sony a6300. I can use my FE16-35 and FE55. The focal length will be all messed up.

Well the kit lenses are not so costly. Still also compared to similar lenses at same aperture they are not that expensive. But yes, they don't really have any cheapo slower primes (yet).

Only with the low end bodies and never lens. Sony doesn't even discount the A6000, which is a 2 year old body.

From the seller's flabby page: "We are not an authorized FUJI dealer and FUJI warranty may not be available. This product is covered by a 1-year warranty via U.S. Electronics Valley. This product was imported and may include material differences from the FUJI products authorized for distribution in the United States."

For a couple hundred dollars more I will buy from a legitimate seller who sells authentic USA warranted items. $700 is not a slick deal in my opinion when you are describing gray market equipment with only a one year warranty from the seller.
