At 160F (the temperature of sous vide) polyethylene (virtually all sous vide bags are made from these plastics, as are most brand-name food storage bags and plastic wraps such as Saran wrap. polyethylene is widely used in containers for biology and chemistry labs) is absolutely safe. At that temperature it is not going to break down - but if it did break down it would just release ethylene (and if you eat cabbage you get plenty of ethylene there) or maybe a tiny quantity of methane - no problem there either - every day you probably breathe in a bunch of methane from people's farts. I mean holy mackerel, we are not talking about a chlorinated or fluorinated hydrocarbon and we are not talking about mustard gas or nickel carbonyl - we are talking about polyethylene which is as simple and safe (up to 220F at least) and well understood as it gets.

Darn, just picked one up paying full retails and extra for 1 day shipping off amazon because I needed it asap. Got it yesterday. it's great!

I only made lobster and 'soft-boiled' eggs. Delicious. Chops tonight and waiting for steaks to come in to try that next.

Buy this one and then return the Amazon when you get your new one in! That's what I did through Target. I bought the bluetooth and am exchanging for the Wifi today. I'm pretty sure Amazon has a 30 day return policy. They might even price match if you do a live chat.

Good call on the price match.

At work, very busy apparently, going to live chat them now.

Edit: Target shows:

I had to email them. Live support didn't work. Looks like target is showing this item as out of stock?

Advantage of wifi is you can start this via cloud. Remotely from your app as far as it's connected to your wifi network. I'm sure Alexa and iftt will be around the corner.

Alexa, cook my dinner! Can't wait to say that lol woot

It wasn't working through mobile but it was working for me through desktop. I know Target.com sometimes has issues with their app or mobile site.

I'd love to have wifi on my suis vide! The 6 hours from my lunch break to dinner is too long. A little bit of ice in the water and wifi means I can start the cooker at exactly the right time. I'm tempted to pay the $150 just for wifi alone! I use mine way more than I expected.
