Garmin Vivosmart HR Activity Tracker with Garmin Elevate Heart Rate Technology
For the most accurate calorie count and the ultimate progress monitoring, knowing your heart rate is vital. The problem is, if you're like most folks, you probably don't like wearing the cumbersome heart strap that most activity trackers require to get that data. Free yourself from the HRM strap forever with the new Vivosmart HR from Garmin - the only touchscreen activity tracker with heart rate info gleaned right from your wrist!

See your steps, distance, calories and heart rate on the continuous- display touchscreen.
Don't worry about squinting in the sun – this touchscreen is designed to reflect your stats even on the sunniest of days.
Keep your phone safe and tucked away in your pocket or running pouch – Vivosmart HR gives you vibration alerts when you have an incoming call, text, email or calendar alert AND lets you control your music player.
Compare your data to aerobic fitness recommendations from health organizations like the American Heart Association.
The Vivosmart wears like second skin thanks to its sleek, easy-fitting design.
See your data on your phone throughout the day – Vivosmart HR is always syncing your stats!
Worried that you might be sitting too long? Vivosmart HR can let you know, keeping you motivated and active with its move bar alerts.
Vivosmart HR is always monitoring – including when you choose to take the stairs! Thanks to its built-in barometric altimeter, this activity tracker acknowledges those more challenging strides.
Not sure where you cell is? Vivosmart HR can track that down as well, so you have more time for fitness and hobbies rather than stressing over your phone.
Syncs to Garmin Connect so you can save, plan, and share your progress - and even join in on fitness challenges.

really good deal. Easily a better HRM than the Charge HR.

I had this and the HR monitor was not very accurate. Good price though if you want something to estimate steps and get notifications from your phone.

Did you wear it snug?

I've worn one of these for the last 6 months and it's been pretty good for me. For heart rate monitoring you want to make sure to turn on an activity before you start exercise (like put it in 'running' mode), then it will start reading your heart rate every few seconds instead of once every 10 mins or so like it does while idle. The numbers it reads match pretty closely what I saw when I used a chest strap monitor.

My only gripe with this device is that early on it was _very_ buggy. It would double count minutes of exercise, etc. and pretty much be totally useless except for having a quick view of your current heart rate. The latest 3.0 firmware fixed a lot of issues though so I feel better recommending the device. Just be aware it's not perfect but for $120 or so it's a good deal IMHO.

Battery life is also quite good and it lasts me almost a full week with about 30 minutes of exercise every day.

The phone app on Android at least is alright--it's a little busy but customizable so you can have it show just the info you care about.

edit: Oh yeah forgot to mention my favorite thing is that this is waterproof to 30 feet or so. I wear mine in the shower and have had zero problems over the last few months. The only annoying thing is that the capacitive touch screen goes a little crazy when water hits it and it will flip through different menus. No real harm though, although I did have to disable the menu item to control music playback because it would sometimes accidentally tell my phone to start playing music.

the optical HR is okay for everyday use, not really meant for physical activity. if you need a good optical HRM look at scosche rhythm+ ( )
