There were times that GCU was bundled with a cell phone purchase (including cheap prepaid SIMs and dumbphones) but I haven't heard of that lately.

Note I'm not the person asking the question.

Memberships are very commonly given away, as either promos or sign ups with other things. For examples, look up UPS and ShopYourWayRewards memberships.

Also, usually these memberships are electronic signups. Pretty hard to shoplift.
