This has been on pre-order for the past several weeks on Amazon @ $299.99. For whatever reason it dropped to $293.58 today (-edit 5-11, now $291.26 -edit 5-16 $273.99) woot Appears Amazon is finally getting stock pretty soon (you can already have it shipped direct from Acer fwiw). The pros for me are it's a higher end looking model with an Aluminum body as compared to most chromebooks that are made out of plastic. It's also fan-less, so no noise to bother my OCD. Big Grin

My pre-order from the 23rd was set to arrive this week on the 5th. It was still being prepared to ship.

I chatted with an Amazon CSR to get a price adjustment and she simply refereed me to their policy that they only price adjust TVs. So I just said screw it and canceled/reordered. My new delivery date is the 6th. If I were a betting man I'm guessing I'll have it earlier than that though as I have Prime. No idea though if these are being drop shipped from Acer or from an Amazon warehouse.

There are no options to change shipping speed @ Amazon. A guy on Reddit already got his from Acer direct and wrote up a review/pics: https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos..._acquired/

This laptop would be awesome to hack and install Linux Mint on it. Run Wine and you can run Windows programs along with Linux apps. It's only a matter of time..

Which Toshiba Chromebook 2 are you referring to? The 2014 model that gets frequently posted on SD for $165 refurbished or the newer 2015 model that runs around $300? If you mean the former, tough call. It is nearly half the price and one of the most well reviewed Chromebooks to date. Some people have complained about the processor being too slow. I am not sure how much better the processor in the Acer is. If you mean the latter, I would probably grab this Acer. Admittedly, there not been many reviews yet so it is a gamble; but with Toshiba pulling out of the Chromebook market I would probably not pay $300 for the 2015 Chromebook 2. I expect we will be seeing discounts on it in the near future.

I'm waiting to see what Google I/O is going to bring (later this month) and also what the price is going to be on the 1080p version of the Acer Chromebook 14 for Work.

I thought the main reason people avoided Toshiba Chromebooks was because of the display flakiness?

The Amazon reviewer stated that this acer is only about half as fast as the $300 Toshiba and on par with the 2014 Toshiba. The benefits of this Acer over both Toshibas is the aluminum build, 14 vs 13 in. screen, and slightly larger storage. Also there is no SD card slot on the Acer, no backlit keyboard, and it uses emmc storage versus ssd on the Toshibas.

Just got mine today, a little slower than I was expecting but the overall build quality is very nice. The screen is by far the best, even though its only 1080p the color is pretty sharp.
EDIT: In case anyone was still wondering these are shipping from Acer to Amazon in FL. Then they ship out Prime, hence the long ship time.
