I posted this in Deal Talk at slickdeals.net/f/8652946-herman-miller-15-at-authorized-stores-5-5-16-5-14-16 a while back, but it has since been flagged as expired

Many sites are now advertising the sale such as
Design within Reach
http://www.dwr.com/category/manuf...-miller.do
and Office Designs
http://www.officedesigns.com/our-...man-miller

Herman Miller will again be having its semiannual sale from May 5th through May 14th (or 17th according to some sites). The last time around in November Office Designs extended this to 20% off with a coupon. See https://slickdeals.net/f/8265363-herman-miller-15-20-off-semi-annual-holiday-sale-november-23-december-14

Official site
http://store.hermanmiller.com/Home

I am unsure if the Office Design Outlet will be lower prices in response to the sale, but it could be a good time to double down on savings.
http://www.officedesignsoutlet.co...t-products

Their eBay store also can run better sales than their site sometimes
http://stores.ebay.com/OfficeDesi...tings.html

And Backstore/Vitality Web is another strong competitor which is authorized
http://stores.ebay.com/backstoreatvitalityweb/
and http://thebackstore.com/shop-by-b...iller.html

See the full list and confirm here before purchasing as the 12 year warranty is a huge part of the "value" in these. http://www.hermanmiller.com/where...tores.html

Madison seating is not authorized, so they are not a good price comparison unless you want to take the gamble and lose out one the official warranty. Read more at http://www.hermanmiller.com/about...ating.html

*Yes, I know many consider their products overpriced, but I have been testing the gambit of seating for a couple of months and have not found anything I personally enjoy more than the Aeron despite causing some initial discomfort. I honestly feel the discomfort was due to decades of poor support and posture as I feel much better after testing one for a week. I personally do not like the feel of the seat of the Embody, but the back is nice. I also did not like the Mirra, so I highly suggest checking these out in person before purchasing. There is also a noticable difference in the sizes of the Aeron models, so make sure to get the right size.

I hope that I can save at least a few people some money as they only run sales twice a year and 15% off is often quite a bit in savings. I also live in an area that does not have the availability of these chairs in the secondary/used market, so the options of Craigslist are not available unless I travel hundreds of miles.

I'm definitely not getting one for free or at a better discount than is being presented here. I'll probably be buying from a local dealer and paying tax, so I'll most likely be paying a little more than an online purchase. Both of the local dealers around me have one week try before you buy arrangements, so my guess is that is a fairly common setup. I haven't purchased the Aeron yet, but I have been doing my research and taking advantage of the trial offers before I make such a large purchase. I've been planning and researching this purchase for a while. Since Herman Miller limits what discounts the dealers can give I've been trying to maximize my savings.

I, like many others, am hesitant to spend close to $1000 (or more) on "a chair," but given that my work is 100% based on the computer, I do spend more waking time with my chair than my wife.

The last few years have led to more leg and back pain, and I'm hoping I can alleviate some of that. I've tried standing desks and it just won't work for 10-12 hours per day while typing. I'm trying to give as much unbiased information and offer as many opportunities for others in a similar situation thinking about making a purchase. I highly encourage no one to make a purchase if they have never tried these. Most of the models I couldn't even stand for a few minutes in the showroom.

The deal posted yesterday for an Office Depot chair looks pretty awesome, so if these are too much, go check out that one https://slickdeals.net/f/8708947-office-chair-99-95-pre-tax-was-499-99-in-store-office-depot-clearance-ymmv-workpro-768e-commercial-leather-high-back-chair-black

I have no relationship with the companies listed.

I went to Design Within Reach a couple months ago to test an Aeron out and I liked it, back felt much better after chillin in the chair and chatting with the salesman. He notified me ahead of time this deal was going to start and I gave him my info and he'll order it for me tomorrow. I guess could have skipped the sales tax all together but whatever. Rep up since if the salesman didn't let me know of the sale I had this alert setup.

They're expensive so they make you cool. But seriously they are supposed to provide more ergonomic support of your body and have a 12 year warranty. There is a lot of controversy around the belief that they are ergonomically better and the "value" is questionable since you could buy 6-12 less expensive chairs for the same cost over 12 years. I've been fine in traditional cheap (<$100) executive office chairs for the last 15 years or so. Its only been the past few years I've started feeling some pain, but I honestly feel like my 18 year old crappy Herman Miller Equa-2 chair at my office is more to blame for that. We're finally replacing them with new chairs, all non-Herman Miller and color matched to our company colors. My Flexsteel leather recliner has been the most comfortable office chair I've used, but its a pain to get in and out of while slid close to my desk.

Herman Miller has some papers on the benefits (I'm sure somewhat biased to sell their products)
http://www.hermanmiller.com/research/solution-essays/the-benefits-of-pelvic-stabilization.html [hermanmiller.com]

https://www.hermanmiller.com/hm/c...upport.pdf

I'd love reading some more independent overviews of scientific papers on the subject, but haven't been able to find much. I really don't want to dig into the hundreds of cited works (many from the 60's-early 90's) in Herman Miller's docs.

Thanks. Have you ever tried it? Is it ridiculously more comfortable?

I have been using an emobody for 2 years now. Enjoy every minute on it.

By the way Herman Miller has been raising their prices on just about everything in the past few years. I've been tracking the prices of a couple furnitures and there seems to be a 2% jump on MSRP since last sale in Nov 2015, and another 2% before that. It's not cheap to make them in the US.

To add to the savings, I found an AMEX offer on my account for $100 off a purchase of $500 or more at Design Within Reach. So check your accounts!

A typical customer of Herman Miller gets between 30-50% off retail. These customers are usually institutions with higher volumes but forget that, bad deal. I'd look for a refurb unit or find another manufacturer.

I've read that with the Aeron it's not like it's the most comfortable chair to sit in initially. But it stays comfortable over several hours. Now I only sat in one for ~30 minutes in the show room so I can't really comment on it. But I've had a few different chairs from Office Depot and they can be super comfortable initially but I have to get up and walk around after a while, also the ones I had were leatherish, so I would sweat in them a lot, even with the the AC on. Like I said before, even as I walked away my back felt much better with the postur fit thing it has.

It says posture fit is more suited to sitting upright and the plain lumbar support is better if you like to lean back. I do like to lean back but the lumbar thing felt like just a hard bar across my back while the posture fit melded into my lower back much more comfortably. Wish I could give some actual long term experience with one.

if you have a friend who falls into the "designer" category like an architiect you can get their stuff for like almost half off.

i did try an embody yesterday as ive been searching around for a new chair. looking at the steelcase gesture as well. it was comfortable but after reading so much about ergonomic this and that i was a little disappointed by it. the feel to me just didnt seem like it would really change much in terms of actual biomechanic support or whatever
