this looks cool but what would you use it for in a real world scenario?

From Cnet:

"it's a niche product that doesn't make sense for everyone to have. If you're still wondering why you would buy something like this, here are a few great uses for a thermal camera like the Seek.

If you're big into DIY and home and car improvement, thermal cameras can help you essentially see through walls and pipes to detect problems. You can check out clogged drains by running hot water through the pipe and checking where it stops, or follow water damage through a wall to find the source. It's also great for checking if hot air is escaping your home, through a window, door jamb or crack. It's also good for spotting electrical problems behind walls or overloaded breakers

Thermal cameras are also great for home or personal security. You can see if there's an intruder in your back yard or an animal that shouldn't be there, like an opossum hiding in a shed. Though I might not always carry this around, you could use it in a parking lot late at night to make sure no one is hiding in a car.

Lastly, the Seek is useful for cooking to inspect your grill and even check the level of your propane tank. You can investigate your oven for hot and cold spots, which most ovens have. Heck, you could even use a thermal camera to check if your beer is cold enough to drink."

I plan on using it at work to check for containers of chemicals that may be reacting or to see if a container really is empty or not. I have a plumber friend that uses one of these to find the source of leaks in houses and in peoples yards.

seems like these can become paperweights once the apps stop being supported. ebay looks like these have been selling in the 100 range for a while which sounds like the company is going downhill.

how do you run hot water through a drain if it's clogged? Doesn't the hot water stay in the tub/sink? Heat rises so not sure how you trace that hot water to the clog.

The temperature of the water in the pipes would still be different than the empty pipes so you could find it that way

The Company is not going downhill. They make other thermal camera products. Most likely an updated product is coming out soon.

Like I said it's a niche product built mostly for professionals.

I've been looking for a deal on one of these for a while.

Interesting when I search it on Lowe's website comes up $99.60
But when you add to cart price comes up to $249.

Called my nearest stores ns was told said don't carry these in store. Online only.

when I had my house inspected least June before purchasing, the guys used a Flir camera to check for cold spots in the walls and for leaking pipes. That's a much better camera than this but I'm sure you could do the same sorts of things.

Why would they sue ? Can't you sell what you own ?
Yes but they accused myself and others of using their images and other things which are copyrighted. This is all incorrect BUT I don't have any means to deal with a lawsuit whether it's right or wrong. They were also mad about the price being below their MSRP. They then proceeded to buy ALL stock that people were selling.

did lowes change their web design? you used to be able to select other stores and it would show qty in stock

now you have to go to the top of menu to do this? it doesnt have it right next to the pick up in store option
