Need Help for Smart Doorbell - Skybell HD or Ring Doorbell Pro

dealzexplorer 5 10 May 19, 2016 at 06:15 PM
I am looking for a smart door bell and narrowed it down to either skybell hd or ring doorbell pro. Would like your opinion on which is better - both usability wise and operationally with other smart home products? Thanks.

I understand the appeal of these products and I've read quite a few reviews of these products, but based on what I've read I'd say neither.

I just don't think either works well enough to justify $200. You're better off with a zwave motion detector or a wired camera. I've seen slightly better reviews for ring, but not good enough to get me to spend $200. Heck I'd buy an Arlo before either of these and I don't like the arlo either.

Thanks. I thought these were a good way to get some kind of security in place rather than putting a dedicated camera in the front. I haven't found a review yet which is pitching these 2 latest offerings against each other. One good part I like about SkyDrive is, it can work with Nest products.

A quality dedicated camera will work a lot better. Consider something from Dahua or Hikvision.

I have a security camera system and also a Ring doorbell. My wife likes the simplicity of answering the doorbell and being able to talk to people.

I had the original Ring doorbell for about 2 months before upgrading to the new doorbell Pro. Though I think the 1080p looks a tad more clearer, I don't think that I would have upgraded after using it for about 3 weeks now.

It is understandable that they are still tweaking the new model, but it has also stopped working randomly about 5 times now. The solution is to take off the faceplate and reboot the unit. I don't mind as much, but I also recommended it to about 5 other neighbors, and now I have to be the one doing tech support for my neighbors.

When it's working, we love it.

But lets be honest, who want's to reboot their doorbell.

If ring made a hard wired PoE version with a watchdog timer to auto reboot, I'd be more likely to buy it.

Oh I agree. And that's why I've been hitting up Ring to let them know each and every time. They update their firmware remotely, so I can tell that they are fixing bugs.

I think some of the "bugs" are in the hardware design. Firmware fixes only go so far...

Power fluctuations are a likely factor.

Interesting you say that. They say that the voltage at your doorbell has to be between 16~24v. I checked mine and it was 17v. I have no idea how old my transformer is. Voltage is one of the things they wanted me to check on why it's stopped working. However, it's happened at exactly the same time for my neighbor and I. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Well it could be a power issue in your neighborhood?

That's a scary thought that it stopped working. Did your regular doorbell chime ring or that also stopped? Also, how is the motion detection in pro - the area that you want to detect can be marked by you? Does that work as advertised?

The chime will continue to work. Pressing the button on the doorbell will seem like it is trying to make a connection with your phone, but it will just time out. The person standing at the door has no way of knowing for sure if you are looking at them thru the app not. But usually you have the option of talking to them, or not.

The motion detection works well, but you will still have to mess with it to reduce the false alerts. The trash truck drives by and it sets off an alert for me for whatever reason. But I think it also has to do with which way your doorbell is facing. My doorbell faces sideways and not directly out into the street.

Everything else works fine. Power doesn't go down.

Did you take a look at Skybell HD before upgrading to Ring Pro? CNET gave them 4 stars plus they offer free cloud storage.

Go for Ring Pro. It's better, smarter and more good-looking. Plus, Skybell HD has some mixed reviews. Some like it and some don't. I even saw people requesting exchanges because their doorbells were nonfunctional.

In the Ring Pro vs Skybell HD [wirelessdoorbellreview.com] battle, Ring Pro wins easily. I own Ring Pro myself and I'm pretty happy I bought it.

Plus, I've also own Skybell HD and didn't like it that much.

Thanks to WikiLeaks we now know the Clinton Cartel makes the Mafia look like a bunch of Girl Scouts.

Which came first, apathy or ignorance when it comes to politics? Are so many people apathetic when it comes to politics because of their ignorance or are they ignorant because of their apathy?.
