What do you mean?

the quality of your build has nothing to do with the sound quality. You just need a source that will send the file to the iDSD via usb or optical, and the dac will do all the conversion and the amp will send the signal to your headphones.

Quality of the file? Now that, only you will be able to say.

I have done a side by side comparison with tidal and spotify (both premium). It wasn't enough of a difference for me to pay for Tidal. If i really like a LP, i'll just go find it in FLAC. Most of my listening is done through spotify.

This is great combo, I love my iDSD. Most versatile unit that i've ever tried and i've tried a lot in this price range. I have my xbox1 and comp connected at the same time, which connects to my speaker amp. You don't have to disconnect anything when you want to use the other. Just know that usb always take priority.

I've never listened to the hd650, but people that have the combo have nothing but praise.

man, thanks for the thorough info. still not sure if I want to jump into this as my music listening isn't all too frequent but I was wondering some of the things you answered. I am no audiophile but I don't think my ears are all too bad in terms of knowing what's good quality music or not.

what music players are recommended for using this or is this only for computers?

You can get a fiio dap or something similar to play lossless audio files. Think you can use an iPod and load rockbox or something like that to get the same affect. I mainly use my computer and play back through foobar. If I'm on the go I just use Spotify premium on my iPhone.

I have been wanting to get the idsd and for a bit more you get the hd650 as well. Looks like a great deal.

anything that can feed it a file. Computer, iphone, android, basically anything that can send a signal via usb or optical. with ios, you will need to get a cck adapter.

it is on the bigger side for portability but i've used strapped to my lg v10 and iphone 6+. I have a iphone 6+ as my host right now. its as long as both phones but much more bulkier.

Because of how usb works, a iphone is much better for stacking on the go. spotify and tidal can play natively with the idsd. with android you have to go through apps to use tidale (spotify doesn't work). With android you can use music apps like Onkyo HF or UAPP to play flac or mp3 files.

With a computer, anything that plays music will work. I use foobar 2000 for my flac and spotify to stream.

Actually a ipod touch is a great dap to use as a host.

For iOS can you use the lightning-usb adapter? I thought there was a review that I saw the person connect the iDSD directly to their iPhone using one of these adapters.

This was the unboxing review I saw that mentioned that:

Thanks again for all the info. I'm using an android device but have been contemplating making the switch back to iOS. I have a Spotify premium account, but if it doesn't work on android, then maybe I should make the switch, or like you said, get an iPod touch.

Well I finally took the plunge. I mainly wanted this for the micro iDSD. I already have some HE-400 and k7xx headphones so not sure yet if I will keep the HD650. Everyone says they do well when paired with a good amp and I have a Lyr2 which should power it nicely. Also they should be a lot more comfortable than my HE-400 which aren't the best to wear for long listening sessions.
