I loved this movie but $28 is way too much for a movie these days. I guess I'll just rent it until they fix their pricing model.

Unfortunately Best Buy is the exclusive retailer for the 3D movie. I don't see it being heavily discounted since no one else sells it.

only reason I posted it, "while supplies last" on the sticker so not taking any chances...

"way too much" for 3D? Its a little high, but not outrageous. Pretty sure they had exclusives on the previous movies also for 3D, and I tried to wait them out. Still paid $26 for Kung Fu Panda 1 in 2012.

So don't count on any "fix".

Tempting but I'll hold off for now. I bought Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 in 3D for $10 each from Frys in June 2014. It was from a promo I saw here. Thanks, for the post, Op.

Again frys won't have it in 3D.

Does anyone have a guess if the 3D version will ever become available at another retailer or will Best Buy only get a limited number of 3D copies and then it will go out of print and never be available again at any other retailer? I fear the latter.

I think it happened with Kung Fu Panda 2 3D which I can't find for sale at any retailer, so if we pass on this outrageously priced copy at Best Buy, then most likely we would have to pay even higher prices eBay or to import it from another country if we ever want 3D. At least Kung Fu Panda 2 3D was released at $22.99 rather than the outrageously priced $27.99. Unfortunately when companies are allowed to be monopolistic and limit supply, then we're either going to get ripped off or have to live without the 3D.

I think it's horrible that Dreamworks allowed 1 retailer to be exclusive with the 3D. That really screws the rest of us.

Target had it up for pre-order a while back and it has not been available since, after seeing best buy's exclusive sticker and no listing at all on amazon, it looks like if you want the 3D version, Best Buy has you by the.....

Of course it will drop in price later, but since it states "while supplies last" I'm not taking any chances. Have 1 and 2 in 3D so need to complete the trilogy, until 4,5,6 etc. come out... Wink

I don't think Target ever had the 3D version for preorder, and if they did it's probably a mistake they can't honor since it's Best Buy exclusive. I guess the 2D version was available for $19.99 - $5 gift card, but I missed that because I wanted the 3D which I didn't realize would be so expensive.

If I knew KFP3 3D would still be available during the holidays later this year, I would wait until it gets a price drop, but I'm afraid they will run OOS and they will never be seen again. If retailers start doing this type of thing with 3D making it exclusive and even more expensive, then they will change 3D from mostly dead to completely dead -- which might be their goal.

I think the reason 3D did badly is stores/studios want a $10 to $20 premium over 2D when it should have only been $5 to $10. 3D looks great and many TVs included it for very little over 2D sets, so the price of the media and its scarcity in stores are the reasons for it being on life support.

Target had it up for pre-order a while back but it was pulled down, most likely when Best Buy scored the exclusive. I would normally wait as well, but with the way the latest popular exclusive steelbooks have sold out and this specifically says while supplies last I'm not chancing it.

I understand. I'm not risking it either. The good part is you can always return it unopened to a Best Buy store after it ships for a full refund up to 45/30/15 days depending your status there. Unfortunately 45 days isn't long enough for any price drops to occur, but it's much safer to buy first and decide later than to not buy and find it's gone forever.

Do you know what Target did with its KFP3 3D preorders during the time window when they were available? Are they still pending and will get canceled later or have they already been canceled?

Not sure, they were not including the free gift card at the time so I did not pre-order it. I was waiting for a price drop/gift card deal at Target or Amazon but they removed the listings and once I saw Best Buy was the exclusive retailer waited for them to drop the price. Who knows, hopefully they drop it again release week...

I'm floored that people actually believe studios would actually bypass profits to keep prices up. Every DVD/Blu-ray you have says "Platinum" or "Collector's Edition" on it. Yet people, after all this time, seem to be buying into what I consider to be COMICAL marketing ploys. I've never paid CLOSE to $28 for ANY of my 100+ 3D movies. Disney seems to price high initially as well but now most of their 3D movies can be had internationally for $15 if you wait for a deal.

That people have held up KFP 1 and 2 as shining examples of this is funny. I paid $10 for KFP 1 and $14 for KFP 2.

But feel free to "invest" in "scarce" digital media even though no major movie release has EVER been scarce or had resale value near the $28 people seem fine to be paying.
