Pit Boss 24 inch Ceramic Kamado Charcoal Grill & Smoker $399 (In-store Price)-Costco

This is a Ceramic Kamado grill similar to the Green Egg or Kamado Joe but for less than half the price. I believe it is fairly identical to the Vision B series sold at Sams Club but larger. This Grill normally sells at Costco for $599 and on Amazon for $799 [amazon.com]. It is also available for $549 on Costco's website [costco.com] as this includes shipping this fairly heavy item. This grill has an instant rebate of $200 and ended up costing me $432 out the door with Texas sales tax. The $399.99 price is good until 7/10. This is only $100 more than the very popular Char-Griller Acorn Kamado but instead has a Ceramic firebox! I went in this evening and there were no boxes out on the floor, however they had several on the top shelf. Here is a forum for owners of this grill with tons of information Kamado Guru [kamadoguru.com]

The Pit Boss Ceramic Series barbecue creates the ideal environment for cooking with lump charcoal. Thick ceramic walls capture heat and emit it evenly, immersing your food in an environment that seals in juices and enriches flavor. Using the calibrated top damper and bottom slide vent, you can control heat to slow smoke ribs, bake pizza, roast turkey, grill burgers, char vegetables, or sear steak. The Kamado dual-tier, stainless steel cooking grids offer 662 sq. inches of versatile cooking space. The grill features heavy-duty hardware that keeps the ceramic body secure and provides a lasting product: the spring-loaded hinge allows smooth opening and closing of the lid, shock absorbing plunger offers added protection against slamming, and the locking wheels allow you to position the grill safely. There's plenty of space for serving on the bamboo side shelves, which also fold-down for storage.

It should be at all the stores in the U.S., because if you look at the website, it shows a $200 instant manufactures rebate. It has always been a $150 online because of the shipping costs.

The CCC club

I have the Joe and its China made but this grill has a super cheap feeling. Lightweight wimp!
Have a look at all the ceramic grills before you make a purchase.
Look at how much they weigh

Good luck!

This is just nonsense. These grills are made by auplex the same people who make vision grills. the ceramic and the ss grates inside. I own a vision grill from costco and a kamado joe. Is the joe nicer yea but they both produce the same results. At this price you can't go wrong. This is a massive kamado for the price. As far as light goes it's ceramic there is nothing light about this grill.

The bottom line is this if you want to get an entry level kamado for an very low price this is a great way to do it. This grill may need some tweaking. My vision grill needed a bit of caulking around the bottom vent to be air tight. That was 3 years ago. I've produced some of the best food you could ever eat in that time on my grill. just head over to kamadoguru.com and check the pitboss section so you know what you are getting.

Hmmmm..... The reviews on Costco seem mixed. I got an akorn earlier this spring and while I did spend some more money to "mod" it, I still feel it was a good value. I guess it just depends on how long it lasts. But grilling with a kamado is great! Might have to take a look at these the next time I'm at Costco.

This is just about identical to the Vision grill which I own. No tweaking or any mods and it produces amazing food. If I didn't already own the vision I would jump on this. Amazing grill for the price. Slickrat is a MORON.

If you are on the fence about a ceramic grill, it will change your life. Just buy it and thank me later.

I agree they will change your life, however, you don't have to go ceramic. Any Kamado style will give you results you never dreamed of. I have a Broil King Keg. Best purchase I ever made in the grill sector. The Akorn is great too.

Ceramic kamados are highly efficient at retaining heat during winter weather slow bbq'ing.

The Home Depot Vision S [homedepot.com] kamado is the best Vision kamado you get get. Many more features which make it the best value of all kamados.

But the price on this Pit Boss ceramic may be the sweet spot for anyone living in northern states and on a tighter budget.

I've been in numerous True Value hardware stores and seen the Green Egg with bending/bulging steel stands and bent castors. They've been using inferior metal parts. The store employees have to order replacements parts just for their demo units! I hate the look of their steel stands. And the green ceramic exterior... ugly.

Heat deflector accessories for all these kamados are a ripoff. Make your own. I've traced their patterns and cut stone and steel.

219lb for XL BGE, 220.5 lbs for this via Amazon's site. Even considering the 220.5 includes the nest and tables, that might account for what, 10-20 lbs? I'm a huge BGE fan, have a large sitting on my back deck now and I use it at least 3x per week. I cook on an XL probably 2x/month, as well as Primo quite a bit too, as long as you are comparing solid ceramic cookers most should be in the same ball park. When you start looking at ceramic coated sheet steel cookers vs solid ceramic, then there is a difference. But you'll know if it's cheap or not as soon as you open the lid.

Not to say even the cheap ones can't produce good food, but they'll never be as efficient/versital as a solid ceramic cooker, certaintly not something you can pass down. My FIL just gave my BIL a 30 year old BGE

Was coming this morning to post this.

I had been watching for this to go on summer clearance, but felt it was too early. Walked into the store and saw the rebate. I believe this is the same price that they normally clearance them out towards the ends of july/august. So even if you wait, it might not get any better than this price.

I have an akorn, and I bought it as a new grill and also an entrance to kamado's. It has worked wonderfully for 2+ years. During that time I've kept my eye on the ceramic Kamado's, and silently cursed when they went on closeout at Costco since we didn't get a Costco until this past april.

I will admit even with the cover on the Akorn there are minor areas that are starting to rust, though if I'm honest this is my fault as I don't empty the ashes every time and they imbibe water. This was something I knew would happen even before purchasing the akorn. For the price the Akorn can't be beat. I think I price matched an online store against lowes and walked out with the grill for around 200.

That being said the akorn was a wonderful smoker/grill. You could purchase 4-5 of them before matching the price of a bge and 3 of them to match the price for this kamado before the clearance/rebate price. Steak, brisket, juicy chicken etc are all much easier. Even overnight cooks and 24+ hour plus cooks were ok with the akorn. Seeing that my akorn has some minor rust, upgrading to this is a bit of a no brainer.
