Best Buy: NEW Sandisk Clip Jam 8Gb MP3 player $30 with free store pickup (or free shipping on $35+ or members who get free two-day shipping)

Black is sold out, but Blue, Orange, Pink, and Green are available.

This is the closest Sandisk has come to the venerable Sansa Clip Plus. It still is not as good as it though: SD card and onboard memory tracks are separate, no microphone, etc, but it does have the easy to see OLED monochrome display, and 8Gb storage, and the killer sound.

So until Sandisk releases a "Clip Plus Classic", this is the best you can get.

Also, no Rockbox with this model...and before someone asks what year it is, it is 2016 and yes, there is a need for a cheap, stand-alone MP3 player with an ever-so-handy clip (mowing the lawn and not being weighed down by my 5.5 inch mobile phone).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

smart phones dont work well when in the gym working out, unless you like strapping it to your arm or something, but even then why risk damaging a $500 smartphone during your workouts

btw, looks like a good deal but I'll pass on this, I bought some of the newer sansa mp3 players and they weren't that great, the sansa clip plus was the best

You can get a $10 prepaid android phone and never activate it and then do whatever you want with it.

Except all of those have god-awful DACs & amps. The noise on even the venerated cheapo Moto E is absolutely noticeable even on cheap headphones/untrained ears. And physical buttons for basic things like forward/back are pretty damn important.

I said cheap smartphone not a top-end one :\

Also you can find clip-cases for a few dollars on ebay so it will work just like the sansa.

LG Optimus Fuel from Tracfone [tracfone-orders.com] + airtime card + $5 off Code FRIEND1 = $16 shipped for a smartphone + a card that can be re-sold for ~$20 = ~$4 profit. Then spend $5 on a clip-case and $10 on a SD Card and you got a "mp3 " player that can also use Wifi when you need it.

Get a phone youre able to root and then install Viper4android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2191223

you can also use volume buttons to control the audio tracks as well, a lot of music apps let you customize the controls

Even if you cant root, poweramp for android lets you control the audio settings to a good degree

Slickwerty35 was referring to hardware not software.

I've noticed firmware releases for this since it came out. Have any of them fixed the issue with SD card/onboard memory not playing together?

Edit: Looks like HW limitation. If you can throw a 128GB or even a 64GB card in there I might get this as my backup if my Clip+ bites the dust. Been using these guys in the gym for probably 10 years.

Yeah? I can get a smartphone with a 2-inch by 1-inch form factor that weighs 3 ounces that I can clip on my shirt?

No Rockbox, no buy. I still have three Sandisk Clip Zip players(2 still new in box) and I use the other one for audiobooks. I will never understand why Sandisk discontinued it. I mean new one's sell on ebay for $60-$100. Even a refurbished Sandisk Plus is selling for $30-$40 on ebay.

I wish Sandisk would make a bluetooth enabled one...one that has support for aptX or at least A2DP.

But that may be getting away from the core use of this. A phone does bluetooth well, and My Sony Hi-Def audio player does it too. The Clip and its brethren are small enough they can actually be clipped on to some headphones and be unnoticeable.

So they are great for portable, great quality wired sound.

Yes, they put in a different chip...why I don't know. Usually products innovate and get better with time, but the Clips seem to have removed features after the apex of the Clip + and Clip Zip.

I have heard some online say 64Gb cards would work...it is usually the number of files it can process that has been the issue. I am buying an Orange one out of curiosity.

Also, good for you for getting your gym workout from the gym equipment, and not lugging around an oversized player/phone/iDevice. worship
