Just skimming through the reviews, it looks like quite a few 5-star reviews were "Discounted in order to receive a fair and honest review..."...

I don't have a problem with the discount/free process. I used to get stuff from Newegg to evaluate. The biggest thing is how do they choose these reviewers? Are they known for giving 5 star reviews for everything? Are they known for writing 5 star reviews for free stuff?

I honestly don't know, and I'm surprised I've never been asked or given an option for one. I tend to write in-depth honest reviews (which is probably why newegg had me as a reviewer)... And just because a product was free, that didn't mean squat to me. I reviewed it as if I paid for it, which I kind of did. I generally spent more time trying to find weaknesses and compatibility issues with the "review" products where my regularly purchased products were typically only tested for my specific intended application(s)... I would quickly knock off points (eggs) if there were quality issues or a feature didn't work as presented or expected.

So just because there are several "discounted-in-exchange-for" reviews doesn't necessarily mean they aren't as honest as they claim to be... However, it is odd that pretty much all of those reviews are 5 star, which is why I question the reviewer selection process.

Bought this 3 weeks ago only lasted 2. Where the mini usb connects just popped off the motherboard. It was nice while it lasted but I wouldn't buy it again even for a discounted price. It blows.

I bought 2 fans similar to these on eBay for $5~6 (battery not included, shipped from Asia, search "rechargeable fan" on eBay and you'll see tons). $10 with battery and shipped by Amazon is a pretty good deal. A friend also bought a few while at Asia, and said these fans have been very popular over there for over a year.

Airflow is quite "focused" -- has far reach but is pretty narrow (not much wider than the 3.5" fan blades) and the fan can't tilt/swivel so aiming can be a problem if one moves around. Air current is pretty decent at low with modest noise, but it gets loud at medium and high speeds. Brushless motor (like those in computer case fans) means it can handle continuous operation, unlike those crappy toy motors where the brushes burn out in hundreds of hours (I've destroyed two O2Cool branded fans in a single summer from extended use).

Power usage with USB 5V is around 1W/2W/3W at low/medium/high so it's more economical than my AC 6" table fans (15W at low). Many of these fans are known to have crappy (over-)charging circuits so I'd recommend not charging your 18650 cells internally unless you can verify that you have a well designed unit. Most "proper" Li chargers' terminals measure ~4.2V open voltage without a cell connected. My fans measure ~4.7V open and charged a cell beyond 4.4V so the charging circuit is definitely a fire/explosion hazard. I use USB exclusively indoors and 18650 outdoors. The charging circuit does not operate when the fan motor is on. ADD: mine didn't come with 18650 battery but I prefer buying my own LG/Panasonic/Samsung/Sanyo cells anyway. My unit will not fit protected cells despite cutting out excess spring terminal.

The eBay seller I bought from shipped by EMS (possibly due to me ordering 2) so I actually got mine in 8 days, faster than a number of my Amazon Super slow-to-Saver-a-few-pennies packages.

I've bought several of these specific brand. They're decent for small little personal fans. One of them shipped with a dead battery, though they'll run off USB by itself. $9.75 ain't bad (Perhaps not great though). I think in the past I've paid about $12 for them.

I bought 5x of these when in cambodia. I love them would keep one charged all times and a spare. All the girls would try to take from me Smilie worth every penny. 18650 battery included for 6$ so 10$here in USA is good deal.
