Do you have a Roku 4 with a loud fan? We talked with Roku PR, and they are asking you to contact them. Roku is offering an exchange for anyone with a broken fan.

In an official statement sent to Cord Cutters News Roku said, "There have been some reports of fans that are louder than expected. We encourage these customers to contact Roku customer support to determine if the player is performing as expected."

Roku went on to say, "there are only a few cases and of course we are working with these customers with affected players to exchange their players."

If you have a Roku 4 that is making a loud fan noise you can contact Roku at 1-888-600-7658 (ROKU).

From our own testing we found the Roku 4 to be quiet even after hours of use. The Roku 4 does get warm in a similar way that all the older Rokus heated up. We tested the Roku 4 with six hours of WatchESPN streaming last Saturday and had no noticeable fan noise.

You can see in this video that the Roku 4 was quiet after three hours of constant use.

Plex. Roku's implementation is excellent. In fact, I've completely converted all my media centers over from XBMC systems to Rokus with: Netflix (Streaming), Plex (Local media) and Tablo (Local DVR). This allows me to completely cut the cord and have a "wife friendly" interface. :-)

isn't this the Roku that has the loud fan? I'd rather wait for one that has a quieter one

I currently have a first gen Amazon FireTV but recently got a 4K television. Would my picture quality for apps like "HBO GO, Sling, etc) be improved from my FireTV?

Considering that the Roku 4 upconverts everything to 4K natively vs my television upconverting everything from my 1080P FireTV to 4K, if that makes sense.

Mate, it depends on which device has a better upconverting engine. If you have a high end TV, you should let it upconvert. Otherwise, let the Roku. I use a high end nvidia card as my feed, so I let it output 4k to my TV.

Not sure, but there's always the Roku app on smartphones -- it allows for audio even on the low-end Roku models. Plus QWERTY searches and some other stuff the remote can't do very well.

I would honestly wait to buy this -- I was an early adopter on a couple of previous Roku models and have had much better results by waiting to buy. They're a great company, but their early releases tend to be very buggy, phone support is pretty bad, but if you wait on later firmware and hardware, it's usually solid. This inconvenience might not matter to tech-savvy people with free time for tweaking, but IMHO the Roku is a plug&play device and should be seamless. YMMV.

If I already have the Roku 3 is it worth the upgrade to this? I'm debating between this and the Nvidia Shield Console....and leaning more towards the Shield because of it's versatility. But I am open to the Roku...
