FP just offered these for sale at $1 last week as part of a 4th of July promo.

They seem to cycle between $1, $5 and $10 price points. Just wait for another $1 sale to come around again. No reason to overpay.

Pretty awesome that these include minutes and texts now. I have 4 that are data only. I have two gripes about these SIM cards.

#1 I added Freedom Friends to my account and it took one full booking cycle for the data to show up on my data allotment. During that full month I had called into FreedomPop customer service 3 times and they were zero help in getting the Freedom Friends data added to my account. They had no idea what I was talking about. I was pretty frustrated until the data magically appeared on them this new billing cycle.

#2 I was pretty aggravated that "international roaming" Sims didn't work at all in British Columbia, Canada. Zero service, they couldn't see a tower no matter what I did. I swear it was on their maps but no go. Luckily I bought a Project Fi SIM before I left.

Junk.

I paid for a BYOD SIM kit and they sent me one that doesn't receive service. Customer Service told me that it's not their problem unless I buy one of their phones. I have unlocked iOS and Android phones, but they refuse to help me on their BYOD SIMs because they won't help on "bring your own device" items.

So they have my money and I haven't been able to use their service for two months. They sweet talk on Twitter, email, and on this forum, but all nice gestures they do publicly means nothing when privately they just tell you to cough up a few hundred dollars if you want help.

The BYOD sim your referring to is on their sprint. Have you tried these at&t/T-mobile sims? (If so how was your signal)

Concerning gripe #2, it's more your own personal ignorance that's the problem and not FreedomPop's fault. Canada is not listed as one of the countries that this service works in. If you bothered to read or look at the picture, service is only available in most of Europe and USA. No one ever said it works in Canada.

Concerning this deal in general, $4.99 is not a deal for this SIM when you can wait and it will periodically drop down to $0.99 in price.

Yes, yes, whatever they want to call it.

I said I have their SIM for LTE/GSM.

They told me it's called BYOD.

I said sure, it doesn't work and I listed the 12 troubleshooting steps I took on my Lumia.

They told me they don't support Windows phones.

I said I have Android and iOS and it doesn't work there either. Tried it on iOS with all of their troubleshooting and configuration steps, in two different locations with 5 bars of service. No data comes through even though I'm configured and connected to the tower. Resetting to factory settings on all devices doesn't help, activating on the SIM doesn't help, etc.

They told me to buy one of their phones, "case closed".

I don't care what they call it. They gave me a SIM, I went above and beyond to troubleshoot it in both GSM and CDMA unlocked phones, and when they couldn't figure it out, they wanted to charge me $$$ to fix it. I don't trust them and I should have stayed away. For the past year I've seen so many SDers complain about their service and the inability to use FreedomPop, and I've seen mods delete their post and other people crush them down.

Now I know what they went through and I should have listened to them.

It clearly states "GSM" SIM card, so I didn't think it was necessary to use a Sprint phone.

But I tried it on an unlocked iPhone 6 Sprint after calling them. It doesn't work.

On a GSM phone, it recognizes it as a 3UK SIM and says "FreedomPop" as a label, and I can manually override the APN and set roaming. It doesn't work on all phones I have tried even though it shows 5 bars and shows that it even auto-detected. FreedomPop CS checked my account and says it's in good standing with no billing issues. So they're okay with taking my money, but not resolving problems actually receiving service.

This may be offered at 99c again in the future, but if you need one now , it's totally worth $4.99. I think we're getting spoiled by all the great mobile options out there lately. 1 year ago people were buying the $40 mifi just to get this sim card

Yes, their support is not so hot, but worst case if it doesn't work you can always get a refund from your credit card

Well, what do you know.

DM on Twitter from FreedomPop telling me they're looking into it, then it's fixed! Surprise!
