I would recommend buying SSD and RAM upgrades from somewhere else, such as Newegg, as HP upgrades are extremely overpriced.

good price if you need this kind of performance. but it still looks like hdmi 2.0 isn't offered on many of these laptops.

They raised the price $20 for the base model just a day ago. I built one with the following specs for $853 using code SPARK30PC:
  • Intel i7-6700HQ w/ GTX 960M 4GB
  • 8GB DDR4 2133 MHz
  • 4K WLED-IPS screen (non-touch)
  • 1TB 7200 RPM HDD
The RAM and HDD is easily upgradable and going for the non-touch screen will salvage some of the battery life lost from going 4K with the most powerful GPU.

Note that is is an actual Quad Core CPU, which is rare (especially at this price point). Personally I'd pay the extra few bucks for the 4GB 960M, but either way this is a nice laptop.

Depending how you configure this you can possibly get extra off using one of these 2 coupon codes SPARK25NB or SPARK30PC. This is really only if you are upgrading as at the current base it probably won't help. I was able to upgrade to the I7 with 960 gfx and 16gigs of ram and Spark30PC saved about an extra $100. Just using this as an example as I still haven't purchased any because I am in the market but am undecided on what I want.

i dont think a converter will carry hdcp 2.2. although i could be wrong. the intention here is to fully support 4k output.

HP laptops suck to upgrade. Typically need to remove keyboard to get to memory and HDD. Still good deal though.

I read thunderbolt can replace both USB and display port/hdmi because it's capable of video signal and power. Should i look for a notebook with a thunderbolt?

I got an HP ENVY(i posted that a few weeks ago), the RAM and HDD were right under a bottom plate(not sure what you call it). All I had to remove was the battery, which at least in my laptop was one of those push the tab to remove batteries. Sorry for my extremely un-technical response.

Does the coupon 'SLICKDEALSSAVE15' work? Keeps saying it is not applicable when I try to apply it to the base model.

i don't care for protected content or bluray. not sure if usb-c or thunderbolt is the future. none of the notebooks i see here have it.
