Saw this [amazon.com] on Amazon today, and it worked for me even though I recently had the account active using the Groupon deal.

Don't forget to set a reminder to cancel before 3 months.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This is pretty well known but worthwhile to re-post now and then for people who don't know.

Note that this requires cancelling your account first, it will not work with an active membership. Another point, use up other existing options for free or discounted membership first, no point in burning your free 3 month Audible membership for Prim users when there are still currently active options for .99/mo, 1.95/mo, etc. When there's a "dry spell" go ahead and cancel your Audible account and fire up your Prime 3-month "trial".

Next note, YMMV, but I have activated this on a secondary account using a 30-day Prime trial once in the past. My Audible 3-month stayed even after cancelling the Prime trial at the end of 30 days. I haven't duplicated this with another account thus the YMMV.

Last, and another YMMV, for some reason I was recently able to sign up for the Prime 3-month Audible trial for a second time on an account I did the trial with last year. When selecting the link to "purchase" the 3-month trial I was denied, however the next time I logged in to my previously cancelled Audible account the Gold Membership was active and I had a credit waiting for me. You will know if it is the free Prime trial because it will list it as such in your membership information. Unfortunately I have no additional information as to why I was able to do this again on the same account, sorry.

Anyway, good luck and good listening!

Here is my summary of how to contemplate an Audible subscription. I have been a member for I think 5 years now.
It's an extremely valuable service for me. I'm not sure where you can get audio books cheaper than 14.95 a month regularly. Even at Costco, the CD formats are $22+. At brick and mortar book stores, you will pay $30-$50 per book. The monthly "fee" is basically you getting 1 credit (one book for 99% of the library, a few books are 2 credits, but they are few and far between). Even with libraries, you need to be patient to get newer books because they are always checked out, and they don't have all the books out there.
Here's some tips about Audible:
1. There are 5 levels of membership, of which only 4 are on the membership page. Gold, $14.95 a month, 1 credit per month, you wait til you get the next credit each month. Platinum, $22.95 a month, 2 credits per month, you wait til you get the next credit each month. Gold annual, $149.50 per year, you get all 12 credits up front. PLatinum annual, $229.50 per year, 24 credits, all up front. There is also a maintenance membershiip. Basically its a free membership that keeps your remaining credits available to use, and let's you purchase additional books at normal prices (including sales).
2. If you cancel your membership, you lose any remaining credits, but keep all your books and access to them for ever. You should always spend all yoru credits before cancelling.
3. There is a daily book deal for $3.99. Most of them are pretty good. Thats about the same as a cup of coffee at Starbucks and half the price of a paper back.
4. There are frequent themed sales. If you like series, there are often intro sales where the first book of a series is on sale for $4.99
5. You can Return a book at any time. If you don't like it, hate the narrator, etc. It's all automated in the screen for either your account or your library, I forget which.
6. There are frequent promotions some automated that let you buy additional credits at a discount. I always see buy 3 credits for $29.99 when I am out of credits.
7. There are some good 3 for 2 sales out there where you get 3 books for 2 credits.
8. There are some times promotions where you can get $5 or $20 worth of credit for free. Take advantage of them.
9. You get 3 free books with your initial trial. You get to keep them forever.

I hope this helps with your decision.

Didn't work for me even though I have an active Prime and no active audible membership. "The Prime 3-month offer is available to new customers, but it looks like you've already given Audible a try. If you think we've made a mistake, please contact us."

"The Prime 3-month offer is available to new customers who have not had a chance to try Audible yet. It looks like you're already an Audible member - thank you! If you have any questions about your membership, please contact us."

So, it'll work if you used a groupon in the past but are inactive, just not if you are currently active.

Doesn't work for me, I currently have a account that is not active but I get a message saying it is only for new audible members.

Question about the standard 30 day free trial of Audible- can you get around this by using different email addresses and credit cards?

I'm on a prime trial now, but don't expect to keep prime. Would it be worthwhile to get this? Or does this prevent my account from getting those other free trials in the future? I have never done these audible trials before.

Do you have to be the main account holder of prime?
