The easy way to think about this is if you don't know what justifies the higher price of this vs. the other '2-in-1 laptop for cheaper' then you really don't need one Smilie

People like the Surface because of many different reasons. The compactness/weight, the excellent inking feature (stylus+digitizer) and its integration with OneNote and other programs, the convertibility, general build quality, etc. It's basically a combination of a lot of good-to-great things in one device vs. just one or two excellent things (including cheaper price) in one device like in the other devices you're looking at.

I've been watching this EDU coupon and really wanted the 8GB, 256GB version to go on sale. I guess it's off to eBay.

It's really a dog, and the fanless design really doesn't buy you any additional battery life.

It's fine for my usage, hated the fans on the sp3. If I can get it for $500 AC, I'd buy it.

Yeah, I've had every version of the Surface Pro and the Surface Pro 4 is a big improvement on the Pro 3. The Pro 4 I have now (4GB, 128GB) has a very quiet fan. I just need the 8GB, 256GB version.

Actually it does buy you about 25% extra time, depending on the use case, along with much better thermals.

Overall it appears there isn't too much sacrificed by going for the m3

I used my University of California .edu email and I got the coupons.

Do you think it is a good idea to wait until Prime day to see if there are any good deals on an i5 8gb version best buy might offer to compete with amazon?

Buy it from Best Buy. If Amazon has it cheaper then return the Best Buy one within the 14 day return policy.
