This is a very likable walking around or travel lens. Quiet AF and IS (VC); very good for video with a Canon DPAF, not quite as fast as the better Canon STM lenses in liveview/video. Build quality is improved. Full time AF override. Decently sharp but not super sharp. Better than the previous 18-270mm; far better than the Canon 18-200mm, The extra wide angle to 16mm is very useful. Put it in aperture priority mode at f8 and it is a very decent do-everything except low light.

If you are on the fence, read about "equivalent aperture" and get a sense of how much more capable an APS-C sensor DSLR is compared to most smaller bridge or 1" sensor cameras. It can be technical, but an APS-C sensor has almost 3x the area of even the very good 1" sensor superzooms. This lens with a Canon SL1 is a very versatile system in a relatively small package.

I had no trouble with the Slickdeals rebate. It was acknowledged and fulfilled quickly. I could see the status online including a scan of the submitted materials.

This is a fun lens. At $350 after rebate, this is an excellent deal for a USA warranty lens. You want that for Tamron; there is a 6 year warranty and they seem to refuse to even service gray market. It was $550 on Amazon when I looked.

I got this lens the last time this deal was up - love the lens, is actually quite sharp for a lens to have this much range in the zoom. No creep on the lens either. The rebate did take a few weeks, but was very easy to do. Ended up being a $200 pre-paid MasterCard that expires in 3 months of receipt. I'd do it again without hesitation.

Thinking very seriously about this, but not very knowledgeable. Is it fully compatible with a D5300? TIA

Anybody have any experience with this lens on a Nikon D3300? I'm looking for a more versatile lens.
