I bought one of these recently. I couldn't decide between this and a new 4K LED set so I bought both and compared them. I bought an LG 55UH8500 4K LED TV and the OLED wins in almost every category for me. One disclaimer is that the 4K set supports HDR but I didn't test that feature. I didn't see this as big point of comparison since there's almost no HDR content available at the moment though I know that will change in the future.

The set is also my living room and I sit pretty far from it (~12 feet). At that distance the resolution advantage of 4K doesn't really make a difference (on a 55" set). The one thing the 4K set wins on is the OS. WebOS 3.0 is noticeably faster than the 2.0 version on this set. If I weren't switching back and forth between the two it probably wouldn't be as big of a deal.

Also, passive 3D was important for me and I assumed the 4K would be better since it can display full 1080p during 3D playback. It's probably the distance I'm at but the OLED was surprisingly better in 3D. My TV sits above my fireplace and with the 4K set when I sit on the couch the double image (crosstalk) is very noticeable. With the OLED set it's practically non-existent - it varies between not noticeable at all to a very small amount.

I was a little hesitant to buy a 1080p set with 4K quickly becoming the "standard" but I'm very, very happy with this set.
Great price for a great TV! Got it from same seller for $1300 a couple months ago. Lowest price I've seen. TV shipped quickly and double boxed. I was worried about shipping damage but since it was double boxed and nicely protected, the interior LG box was in perfect shape. TV picture quality and features are outstanding. Well worth the price.

Damn, sounds like the only way I'm getting in on one of these eBay deals is if I sit at the end of my driveway on a lawnchair all day

Hopefully there's an eBay bucks deal soon. I might have to finally upgrade my 42" Panasonic plasma. For anyone who has gotten in one of these deals, how is the delivery handled? I just moved to a farm and the end of the driveway is about a quarter mile from the house. Do they require a signature?

does LG make a non-curved 1080p OLED?

No, but the curve is not distracting.

Mine came via UPS, signature is mandatory and you can't reroute the delivery to another location or have it held for pickup.

Actually the new models for 2016 have a non curved variant. Look up the OLED55B6P

I think for a package like this they'd suck it up and drive to your house. I also paid a few extra bucks for a guaranteed delivery window. When you do that they usually show up right at the beginning of the delivery window. I think that was a $7 fee.

They have lots of flat 4K's, but he asked specifically about 1080p.

While flat, that model is 4k, not 1080 as the poster was asking about.

This is the best (shipped) price ever from an authorized reseller.

Great Deal.

I bought this model from this vendor on eBay about 3 weeks ago (anyone think they'll refund the price difference if I ask?) and am very happy with the purchase. It was double boxed very securely. I can't speak to delivery since I wasn't home when it was delivered, but I imagine they brought it into the entryway since I doubt my wife brought it in from the porch. The picture is great and while I would have preferred a flat version, the curve is very subtle and hardly noticeable.
