Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by Randy71

  • Note, this tablet is listed in brand new condition but has been updated from Windows 8 to Windows 10 directly by Dell. As such, it will have a Dell refurbished sticker, but is new and has never been used, plus carries the full 1-year manufacturer warranty. See product page description for more details
  • Our research indicates that the 32GB Dell Venue 10 Pro 5055 10.1" WiFi Tablet is $25 lower (17% savings) than the next best available price from a reputable merchant with prices starting from $150~RevOne

The major problem with Chinatabs is that their quality control is all over the place and they don't usually have gorilla glass (which is why they ship with preinstalled screen protectors). The regular glass they use for panels scratches super easily, personally I can not stand it. Software updates outside of Windows is also all over the place as well as woefully inadequate passive cooling to cut down on cost/weight. Their are some solid deals out there, many just look good on paper and fail to deliver in daily use.

Better hope it gets there in time for the free Windows 10 upgrade! 10 days left Wink
(I see now they've updated the description to say it comes with Windows 10 preinstalled.)

I think I'd rather have one of these [gearbest.com] with 64GB storage, 4GB RAM, faster processor, and Android 5.1 switching.

16:10 is better than 16:9, but I'd rather have 4:3 like the teclast and iPad, or 3:2 like Surface 3/Pro 3/Pro 4 and the old Nook HD+, unless your primary usage is streaming video, in which case you'll want it as wide as possible.

The specs say 1280x800, which is about the lowest resolution you're likely to find on a 10.1" tablet, but has about the same pixel density as a 15" laptop screen @ 1920x1200, which most people find perfectly sharp for reading text.

be careful... the 32G gets eaten up very fast with Windows, updates, Office and so on if you're using it for anything work or school related. once you near 5-7G free things start to slow down quite a bit.
i sold mine and went with a 64G 11Pro, much happier. 2G memory is still an issue, but that can be worked around easily enough.

There is no non-full windows. RT was discontinued. So yes, this runs Windows 10 Home 32 bit.

Works with this active stylus: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sn...1:c&ven2=:

Is it good for photo editing instead of a dedicated wacom or similar tablet or a more expensive ultrabook or hybrid?

I am not an expert on photo editing, but I would guess that that the atom processor plus 2gb of ram would probably not be enough horsepower for a good photo editing experience. An MS surface tablet with a core i5 or a decent spec ultrabook would be recommended. You need a lot of CPU power for a smooth photo editing experience.

I have an 8" lenovo with a similar atom processor and 2gb of ram and its fine for internet browsing or book reading, even plays hearthstone, but I would not expect it to run photoshop very well.

I have one. The 2GB kind of kills the deal. Can get slow if you have a lot open
Cheap for a nice quality tablet.
Might want to put that money into another tablet.
