I know they're saying theyr'e regularly $113 on Amazon, but that's an insanely inflated price.

From the manufacturer is $39.99

We had a small one like this and you had to push down on the lid and hold it there to get it to seal. If this one is like that, STAY AWAY. However, this seems to have some locking mechanism, so if you can operate and seal it hands free, this looks like a good option.
I use individual bags, not rolls (generally) so you don't really need a cutter in-machine (though it is nice to have). The one I have has roll storage inside which makes it take up a LOT more space (vertically) on teh counter--- I rarely use rolls, so this was a wasted feature for me. I like the idea of a lower-profile vac sealer like this, provided you can operate it hands-free.

I've read some people reuse--- cut it open, wash it, then re-seal into a smaller bag next time.

I personally don't do it.

Anything with plastic bags isn't cost effective, sure. But we LOVE our foodsaver!
We get our generic bags from www.foodvacbags.com/ (they also have a shop on Ebay)

I justify the cost of the bags, b/c we buy meat in BULK when it goes super cheap. So I'm TOTALLY saving money by buying a ton cheap, sealing it, and deep freezing it. It's good for a longgggg time that way (we got the foodsaver first, then ended up using it so much that we chose to get a (used) deep freezer.
I'd much rather have a freezer full of chicken breasts at $1.88/lb or roasts at $2.49/lb versus NOT doing it this way and being at the mercy of whatever is on sale (or not) at the market that week.
The food thaws out great since it's totally air-sealed, we just fill up teh sink with cold water and toss it in there. If you seal in thinner layers, it thaws out super quick (a larger roast, a few hours the night before and then in the fridge during the way while I'm at work.)

I'm a couponer, and I also love the mason jar (wide mouth) attachment. I buy a ton of flour, or sugar, or chocolate chips, or nuts, or rice, etc etc etc, toss it in a jar, seal with the attachment, and it stays fresh for years (just opened a jar of chocolate chips that I sealed 3 years ago!!!! fresh as the day they went in)

We get the 1/2 gallon jars (Ace is the cheapest, with free store delivery) - http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2841638

I never bought from Meh until last time i saw a refurb one of these on here a few weeks ago and bought one for my mom. The buying experience was ok, if i remember there wasn't a whole lot of shipping notifications but I really don't care. I guess I'm used to amazon telling me every 2 minutes what's going on with my items.

She shrink wrapped some steaks before freezing. I ate one of the steaks the other day and it tasted very fresh. Can't comment on the machine volume though.

I'm new to the whole vacuum food saver thing. So do you reuse the bags after each use? And is it more price efficient than your standard ziploc bags?

Edit: Can we please stop with all the fake account posts? Now its making me not want to buy this...

OMG... Just realized that meh is the reincarnated woot.com! Same owner, same place and same $5 shipping. Awesome. Just bought one. Hope my wife doesn't yell at me for buying as she hates kitchen clutter :-)
