Initially ~$1000, $799 last month. Now $599.

The largest e-ink reader device, about 2x the area of Kindle DX. Also very lightweight.

It's a highly specialized device, most people will not need it anyway. But you will enjoy it if you read a lot of PDFs or if you find the LCD screen on ipad makes your eyes tired.

Just FYI. Also possibly tax-free in some states.

The Sony is expensive because its display is 8.5" x 11" (standard letter-size)
which makes it perfect for reading documents and sheet music, schematics,
medical charts.(in fact, I first saw one at my doctor's office)
been doing some research, there are better products that are coming out this year

Onyx boox max/Icarus A4
Goodereader
PocketBook CAD

(all of them are still preorder/manufacturing stage, while sony is available and likely EOD)

going to pass on this sony DPT-S1
this gotta be awesome for pdf reading, but it's a niche market. Unless you heavily subsidize like amazon, you have no hope...
Maybe I'll buy one for 100 during the fire sale

That's way smaller than this thing. This has a very big screen.

thanks OP, been keeping an eye on this, looking to replace my kindle DX

this is indeed large and has a lot of drawbacks (only webdav syncing and it's half broken),

seems to only support PDF (no native epub/mobi), which sucks

you can send it to someone in china to hack it and get android 2.2 UI running.... but that's useless too

I'd love one but seems to be dropping pretty quickly. I'll wait til it hits sub-200

looks good. But there is a few things that makes note taking a few years off IMO
1) friction of the pen on the screen. Writing with a pen or pencil feels definitely different compared to these digital pen. Also I don't know if this one emulates the pressure of the pen on the paper correctly.

2) Response speed. This one is a bit harder to fix especially with the e-ink display. Normal paper you see right away what you write. These machine often have a slight delay before they are drawn in the screen. IMO the only way to solve this is to communicate directly to the display as well as the OS so this way the writing can be drawn the moment you write it... or at least a lot closer.

Before I buy something like this, I need to see the above 2 solved.

When is the colored version coming out? I remember studying elementary and high school with black & white books and it was difficult to follow graphs and charts when I cannot discern the colors.

This was overseas of course.

technology is still lacking

there's color eInk available, but very rare

"regular" B&W eInk 13.3" devices are very rare/niche too

so color eInk 13.3" will be a unicorn. get an iPad/tablet if you want color
