That's a very good price for a complete AR. Throw on some kind of optic/sight and you're good to go.

Unfortunately prices are on the rise again as it's election year so it's hard to find good deals. I think this is a worthy one if you are looking for an entry level AR with a bit more than the low cost plastic handguard and entry level barrel . Nice SS barrel and in my opinion a very good looking rail. All that's needed is a magazine and the optic of your choice. Possibly a set of BUIS. I'm set for that (Thanks SD) as I grabbed the set of Magpul flip-ups for $42 last month.

Lol... you guys are screwed. They just passed legislation in CA that dealt with the bullet button thing.

Now there is another solution I think, but yeah the laws have changed recently. I think the new solution is taking the AR-15 apart between the upper and lower using the two pins that hold it together in order to swap magazines. LMAOLMAOLMAO

But you absolutely cannot buy/use this in CA as-is. I doubt they'd even ship it to your FFL.

Not likely, and certainly not as it is. That would be a question better directed to your local FFL to see what kind of flaming hoops you have to jump through to get this. I know they recently changed something about that law.

a friend of mine recommended that it is chrome-lined or whatever. ive been looking at the dpms oracle, and the mp sport 2.. both chrome lined or some sort of other lining.... is that a better option over this upper?

i really like the idea that this is free floated....

The barrel is actually a 416R [matweb.com] chromium stainless steel barrel. Not plain barrel steel. Which requires either chrome lining or melonite (QPQ) treatment to prevent it from rusting. 416R has that resistance built in. One of the reasons I jumped on this.

FTR, The lowest this upper has been is $270 I believe.

Mmmmm... No, I -think-. Talk to your FFL you're shipping to. Generally speaking, if it's a stripped receiver, then you don't need a bullet button already attached. If it's a complete lower... and the FFL considers it a "firearm" rather than a "lower reciever" on the DROS/transfer, then yeah, you need to have the bullet button already installed (Or if your FFL just wants one anyway, because they can deny any sale they want). You can also use a middleman FFL to install the bullet button, and then send the compliant transfer to your local FFL, though you may end up losing some savings.. Some examples:
http://calguns.net/calgunforum/sh...?t=1039869
http://www.ebrwebstore.com/middle...-services/

As for the new law regarding bullet button Centerfire Rifles and Centerfire Pistols: You must possess them before the end of the year, and then you'll be eligible to register them as Assault Weapons sometime next year.

This is a fairly good guide to the new laws (Except for the bit about Shotguns like Saigas/VEPRs. That's incorrect, they're unaffected as far as I can tell): http://www.calguns.net/calgunforu...?t=1214480

Finally, you could always get -everything else- in this kit, and then get a stripped lower, a Lower parts kit (which may or may not include a trigger), a buffer tube, and stock, and build out the lower yourself. Stripped Lowers go as low as $40 + shipping, though I see them go for $50 + shipping, and you can have that sent to a FFL without a bullet button.

Hope that helps, and good luck getting your stuff before the end of the year.

Yeah they don't go into affect until next year though (I'm pretty sure). The people who created the bullet button released a workaround for the new legislation the same day the legislation was passed.
