this is for 1st gen, the 2nd Gen is a more polished product, such as easier to connect to wifi, and manual controls

I have the first gen, getting it connected was a challenge, with my note 4 it would not connect at all, iphone 6+ connected first try. I really like it and check with your local water company for rebates, mine offers a 50.00 rebate.

I really like the controller since you can water any zone as many times and at any time you want to. Allows me to water the lawn for 10 minutes then an hour later 10 more minutes rather than all 20 at one time.

I have a note 4 too.
Bummer. guess this goes on the backburner since it is the old model.
I didn't see it, but it shows rev 1 in the picture and in detail writing somewhere?
Thanks

I just purchased and installed one of these yesterday at Home Depot (which will be going back since this is significantly cheaper). I also had some issues with the WIFI configuration, but their support was tremendous and we got it connected. Their method of configuring is a pain, unlike many consumer devices which will create an internal WIFI connection to connect to from your phone for initial configuration, this uses something called "BlinkUp", where your phone screen flashes light pulses which the Rachio then sees and imports. I've never seen anything else like this, and it obviously wasn't ideal since they abandoned it for Gen 2. However, if you follow their tips specifically, including turn brightness ALL THE WAY up, ensure your room is as dark as possible (I just closed my garage doors), and hold phone flush against the Rachio, it will eventually work. For $100 savings over competing products, the hassle was worth it for me, as once it's up and running, the interface, zone configuration, and automatic scheduling are tremendous.

This has been one of the best home automation purchases to date. I'm sure I've saved enough in water to more than cover the upfront cost. If you have concerns about the WiFi setup just grab a friends/family members device for the initial setup. Although the setup process is not easiest it is by no means difficult and I had no troubles setting it up with my Android device.

Not saying I would not recommend just that if you have one and have issues try a different phone. I was in a bathroom with no windows so it was completely dark and full brightness with no luck at all. Support is really good and since they are small, local and knowledgeable. They were going to replace mine when my wife came home and I tried her iPhone. You only have to do it once so I would say go for it. if you have issues I can't imagine anyone that does not know someone with an iPhone, as a backup.

I have no experience with this brand but the concept of an internet connected irrigation controller is great. I have the Irrigation Caddy (www.irrigationcaddy.com [irrigationcaddy.com]). During the heat of the summer water is by far my largest utility bill and its great to be able to control from my phone and the cloud.

great price. i am electronically very savvy but like others i had some some difficulty connecting. i had the lights turned off, and followed instructions perfectly. the first like 20 attempts did not work.

the think that helped (as suggested on a forum) was to turn screen brightness DOWN. turned my LG G3 brightness from 100% to 70 and it connected the first time. hope this helps.

since then i have had zero problems.

Good price, however after comparing these with the Rainmachines, I feel those are superior. Waiting for the Mini-8 to come back and that's what will be replacing my older Rainbird
