Thread Details

Was browsing the clearance section in several local Home Depots and saw at least one of the Ryobi's Phone Works tools on sale/clearance.

Perhaps the whole line is being discontinued, since on HD's website, they no longer show a in store pick up option. In the stores I visited, the thermometer was marked down to $20 (normally $40) and the inspection scope was lowered from $100 to $70. These tools are in the clearance section at the end of aisles in some stores, while in other store they are still in the tools sections, but with the prices lowered.

I bought the thermometer since it was only $20, and was the only Phone Works tool that had decent reviews. Some of the main issues with the reviews is that the app didn't work for newer phones and that you had to jump through a lot of hoops, including signing up for Ryobi account and scanning the QR code on the device itself, just to be able to use it.

However, other than taking me like 10 minutes to rip open the plastic cover, I just downloaded the app to my iPhone 6, plugged the thermometer in, and it worked out of the box, without needing me to sign up for any account or scan the QR code or anything.

I tested it out a bit and it worked well, since the device itself has a laser pointer, and it also uses the camera on the phone, so you can take a picture of whatever you are measuring the temperature of as a record.

If anyone is interested in this device, maybe check your local Home Depot to see if they've got it on clearance as well.

Funny... It's been $19.97 in my local store, now it's $14.98
The other store 15 min away sell it for $39.97.
Sometimes it's hard to understand the logic of this deals...
Anyway, is it something worth 15 bucks? Wink

Same thing here. I was able to pick up a husky light the other day for 0.01 so I started checking other stores. A bunch were oos ( because it's discontinued for a while now ), I found a 2nd one for a penny, then one store still sells it for $25, but the boxes are all dirty and taped up.

I have noticed the Ryobi phone attachments being marked down in a few stores. They still haven't gone low enough for me to pick any up yet though.

Yes, of course. Just buy it because you saw it on SD. It doesn't matter much if it works or not or if you will ever need/use it or not. EEK!

It is convenient to measure temperatures at a distance. The laser dot shows you where the measurement is being made. I guess you can use it to get a sense of how hot/cold the air coming out of the HVAC ducts in your home is. Or maybe measure near the edges of windows to see how much heat is escaping?

Not sure how accurate it is. Probably not as accurate as a dedicated tool a professional might use. I did point it at the inside of my fridge and freezer, and it seemed accurate to within a degree or two of what the fridge/freezer was set at.
