The 'Craftsman standard' died a painful death about 10 yrs ago. The reason that Craftsman still hits the top of the review lists is 1) ad money 2) inertia (people still trust it, even if it is a shadow of its former self) and 3) they are usually compared against brands like Husky which have had similar drops in quality. You almost never see them including companies like Wiha, Wera, Witte, PB Swiss, Vessel, Hozan, let alone American brands like Proto or Snap-on/JH William in the comparison. It is usually, Craftsman versus Husky versus Stanley versus a couple other cheap tool brands (sometimes Tekton, sometimes some other company that their main focus is power tools but lets review their screwdrivers anyways).

ANYBODY that really knows tools knows that modern Craftsman has become complete balls of rubbish, it is really sad because I used to love Craftsman (like REALLY love it). There was a time when Craftsman meant quality, reliability and performance. Now it just means, the cheapest lowest cost production possible, with no care given to quality, performance or reliability! From tool storage (used to be great, now are cheap and flimsy) to their ratchets (low quality, binding and breaking easily) to their wrenches (roughly cast and finished, using cheaper steel, way more likely to round off bolts than the older verisons). Hell, when HARBOR FREIGHT is beating the PANTS off of you when it comes to quality in two of these categories (tool storage and ratchets) with their new releases and doing it at a cheaper price, then you KNOW something has gone horribly wrong at Sears.

The one area that Craftsman is still OK in is is the Craftsman professional screwdrivers, which are made by Western Forge. Even though are only OK and the cheaper acetate handle Craftsmans have become so soft they are worse than many Chinese-made cheapies. I actually twisted an acetate handle trying to get out a rusted screw (like the shaft twisted and I am NOT that strong). These Wera screwdrivers beat the Craftsman Professional VERY easily: better grip, better bite for the laser tips, better machining. I have used both and it isn't even a contest, from build quality to performance the Weras do it better.

Good stuff. Note that the Kraftform Kompakt 25 is not a ratcheting screwdriver, even though it may look like it might be one.

FYI, some of the prices are just barely lower than Chad's Tool Box prices. When you add in Amazon sales tax, they are about the same.

Wera is a German brand and these screwdrivers are made in the Czech Republic. They are considered to be one of the best brands of screwdrivers in Europe and are comparable to the best American brands like Snap-On, Armstrong, etc.

Wiha, Felo, and Witte are 3 other German brands of similarly good quality. The only difference is that unlike Wera, their screwdrivers are made in Germany, if that makes any difference to you.

As mentioned by a poster above, Chad's Toolbox is a great website to find European tools like these screwdrivers. KC Tool Co is another place to look if you can't find what you want for a decent price on Amazon.

A few points:
Country of origin is not a reliable indicator of quality
Some SnapOn tools are made in China

These are decent driver, comparable to the better brands like Craftsman.

When you add in shipping, it's a joke.
