Bought this phone (for $180) half a year ago and have 0 complains! It's an amazing mid-range phone, and is an amazing deal at this price.

Amex cards have a spend $250 get $25 back. So If getting this phone, might want to shop around some more to meet the spending requirement.

At $399 the Idol 4S has horrible specs vs the $399 ZTE Axon 7.

it is very clear that he talks about idol 4, not 4s.

if idol 4 is price $199 like last year, it definitely would be way better deal than idol 3.

But, I would still buy a LG G4 on eBay or moto x pure for $250 given the specs and price.

I've owned both and I have to disagree. the screen on the Alcatel is beautiful, the UI is clean, the speakers are way better than the g4 (as is the headphone audio and ear buds supplied), and a better camera on the Alcatel as well. I know ppl are going to flame me on the camera but go grab both and take a low light shot. the g4 had *much* more noise than the Alcatel. I was so disappointed with the g4, thought it was more of a $100 phone. the only downside I found to the Alcatel was lack of support. the sticker on the box said it had a 2 yr warranty, but the manual said 1 year. I called/emailed Alcatel and never got a response. that alone made me return the device. shame.

I've really wanted to get this phone to replace my G2 (which I bought new less than a year ago), but I finally have my G2 exactly how I like it - Cloudy G2 3.3, cf.lumen blue light blocking, rooted, Dorimanx Kernel. And the G2 has OIS - and a FANTASTIC camera - which is not something other sub $200 phones can boast just yet.

The main reason I want this one is for the stereo speakers, but I think I'll just wait for the next Nexus to come out, and get the 64GB Nexus 6P when it drops down to sub $200 on a clearance deal.

Thanks for posting the deal - will share with others who can benefit!

I've had the Idol 3 with Cricket when it was first released. I sold it when it still had decent retail, as it was so laggy. I recently picked up a ZTE Zmax 2. I've noticed its much faster than the Idol 3 with similar screen and build quality. The only area where I preferred the Idol was the speakers. However, if you are using the ATT network, I think the best option is the Zmax 2 at $59.99. Just my .02 from someone who has used both.

Current owner. When I got the phone (like a month after it released), it was great. Now? I'm really dying for the Axon 7 or something like it to come out. It's very slow. Specifically with Pokemon Go, the frame rate is sub-30. And it gets choppy in crowded places.

Cricket announced the Idol 3 OTA Marshmallow update will begin being pushed to phones tomorrow, 8/5. Fingers crossed that it improves performance.

Good price for an unlocked 3 but so many reports about lag. Anyone know if this unlocked 3's hotspot works on Cricket out of the box????

For anyone wondering

This phone (along with the cricket variant) can be permanently rooted, bootloader can be unlocked, TWRP recovery can be installed, and there is a good choice of roms available including cyanogenmod and debloated marshmallow stock roms. This can all be done quite easily.

Furthermore, Alcatel officially released Marshmallow for this unlocked phone 2 months ago and it improved performance greatly even on stock. It is buttery smooth now.The UI itself is basically stock marshmallow.

I too bought this phone in June of 2015 for $180 and its been great. Was looking to upgrade now but honestly nothing else seems worth it in terms of price/sleekness/features/mod-ability. Was hoping to get the note 7 but $850 plus tax is a tough pill to swallow.

Furthermore, because it's inexpensive I don't keep any giant case on it just a $10 screen protector and a $10 back leather slickwrap.
