I purchased for my son. I know we have quite a few techies on this site. Can anyone tell me what part I should buy to upgrade the RAM?

TIA

you will need to buy DDR3L ram to upgrade the ram. it currently comes with 4GB and according to the acer product page there are two slots. Don't quote me on this but according to the Cnet product page only one of the slots is taken up by the 4GB that comes with it so you can buy another 4GB for under 20 bucks and make it 8GB which should be more than sufficient for this computer. If you want to go to the maximum 16 then you will need to buy two 8GB sticks and replace the one that comes with it.

(I don't claim to be a techie at any level I just like to tinker with stuff, so someone else might be able to give you more detailed information as far as what specific memory to buy and all that)

Changing the memory to 16 GB ($50) and the hard drive to SSD (240 GB for another $50) should make a nice system. Perhaps get rid of the DVD RW to put in the SSD and not the existing HD. Use SSD for almost constant information and the HD for transient data.

I have not gone through the manual for this system but I am assuming both doable given the way laptops are built now. Also, you need to weigh this system (a new, I suppose) with refurbs that appear with better specs for the same upgraded price.
