I can never decide if it's worth going for open box

"38.5" screen (measured diagonally from corner to corner)

A good size for a living room, or if you want a larger bedroom TV.
"

lol was thinking about this for my kitchen

We have a 2011 Insignia 37" at 720p in our den as a primary TV. Still going strong with 3-4 hours of usage a day. But definitely about the smallest I could tolerate from 12' away. With Hulu and some others, it's almost hard to read. I remember when having a 27" CRT was considered the beginning of "big screen TV."

I bought the last 3 32" TVs as open box over the last 4 months. Two Insignia from BB and one TCL from Walmart. All of them got shipped, arrived without any problems and were in excellent condition. All three TVs even had the bezel plastic and everything still on. Personally I have had very good luck with BB open box and it saved me $10-$20 extra on a $100+ TV so around 15% for pretty much the same thing.

Is this TV good for gaming? How's the picture? Does it need to be calibrated?

I'd say the keyword is Haier.

I guess I will ask. How would this be for a second monitor? Has anyone done that?

So much this, I've had Haier window A/Cs, dehumidifiers, and TVs and I've never been so comfortable in saying an entire brand is junk. Apparently they were German(?) and reputable at some point in time...
