Droidalicious, don't hate me but the new one does NOT have a battery per support and you can see in the manual it does not list a battery in the specs. i called support and they told me with the two antennas, beam forming ect the old battery was not up to the task so they deleted it.

I believe unless you port forward it or set up the storage to be accessible outside your router it is not

fast I just uploaded 1.3 gb file to it in 4 minutes and to the older b/g/n version.

per the manual using the android app and selecting "local backup" no but you would need to be connected either to it directly or to the network it is connected to.

yes see the manual

You would be able to back them up to your account with the idrive app, to the hard drive you would probably need to open ports, ect to do so.

if you connect it via usb to a computer and then share folders, yes, if you leave it as a network device I think you would need to create users on the hard drive, and once they log in you could give them access to certain things *i think* but you'd want to talk to their support for sure.

if you have it connected to a computer via usb, sure, if you have it connected to a router that supports it either via ethernet or usb, sure, to learn how either contact idrive support or read your routers manual.

the earlier white version was a hitachi drive

the drive is not encrypted, you are talking your online backup. that is encypted. and just like crashplan you can either supply your own encryption key or use theirs.

The drive comes with USB 3.0 connection, ethernet, and has it's own wifi router built in. you can use it completely independent the internet, just as a regular usb hard drive, a networked drive, or you can connect to it's wifi and use it for sharing files directly from a phone or tablet.

mine had no account information in it, the drive can be used with whatever account you want or just plain used as a hard drive. I'm using it to mirror another hard drive from time to time as well as to save files from my phone to.

yes very easily / not that i experienced.

when you look at your account now, for the first 2 weeks they give you the option to cancel only, when the two weeks are up then you get the option the disable auto renewal
see the attached pix. at any time I believe you can chat with CS and either disable the auto renewal or cancel. however don't expect money back if you cancel after getting the hard drive

IDRIVE Service

My 3rd year of free crashplan expired around the time I got this so I've been using it and so far not a hitch, took FOREVER to upload because I was worried about being able to stream video at night (my wife hates it when there are pauses or stutters so i was only running it from 9am to 4pm, I finally ended up running it all the time with 50% utilization and never had a problem. I cannot speak to the issues people are talking about because I am only backing up 500 gig (2 computers and 2 phones) so no where close to running over. But you do not have to use the service AT ALL to use the drive, i've never even connected the drive to the internet once

They don't have any dimensions published anywhere.

But I assume it has a 2.5" hard drive inside and then judging by the size of the ethernet port, it looks like the size of a 2.5" external drive but thicker.

For $35, I bought one.

I paid a lot more than that for my 500GB Seagate GoFlex Sattelite WiFi drive.

Are you sure the drive works without an active subscription to their online backup service?
