Women's frame style only. That's an important detail. Recommend adding that to the title, OP.

Are these professional grade? I'm hyped up with the Rio Olympics and am thinking of taking on professional cyclism.

Knowing nothing about bikes, I'm considering getting this for my girlfriend for her 3.5 mile commute to work in the city. The reviews on Amazon are pretty average.

These things are 50.5 pounds. That's exceptionally heavy. Might work if it's Amsterdam flat, but otherwise I'd shop for a much lighter commuter bike.

No, it's not important. Men can ride this bike just as well--and in fact, would have an easier time of it.
The whole notion of unisex bikes is nonsensical.

But aren't you arguing in favor of unisex bikes? Are you saying your position on this matter is nonsensical?

In any case, these bikes aren't unisex, that's my whole point. Can't believe I'm having to belabor this point, but bike frames come in two flavors: men's and women's. The bicycles OP has linked to are women's. But his title doesn't indicate that.

However you personally feel about the propriety of men riding a women's-framed bicycle is irrelevant. The vast majority of male bicycle consumers interested in an affordable commuter bicycle will be disappointed to click on this topic and discover it's only for women's framed bicycles. Hence my suggestion that OP edit his title to make that clear.

We generally try to stay away from soapbox speeches here at SD. Not only is it veering off topic but it may come as a shock to you that just because you personally think something does not actually mean everyone else feels the same way. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

For what it's worth these exact bicycles are available at WalMart for the same prices. $119 and $99 respectively. I was considering one for my wife as she needs a cruiser style bike now with upright riding position for her back. Anyone considering pulling on one of these you can get instant gratification at wally for same price plus your state tax of course. These are heavy cruiser style bikes, nice for older folks on smooth bicycle paths.

Actually, these are junk grade! If you're considering Pro grade, plan on spending 10 times as much and that will be entry level.

Agreed, but you wouldn't want to donate a dozen of these to the Boy Scouts, or even the Mormans, they might take offense to their image.
Now as for a purple or pinkish bike, well no straight male would ride that.
