Does it make any difference buying iPhone from Verizon Wireless vs. Apple Store?

1,128 136 August 14, 2016 at 06:12 AM
My son needs to upgrade his old iPhone. We have VZW Everything Plan so we pay full retail. I will be buying "cash" or really charging it on my credit card so I do not need financing. My question is should I order the iPhone through Apple directly or VZW? The price is exactly the same but I am not sure if there it is better to buy it at one place versus the other? The only thing that I am not sure if whether VZW will charge me a fee for bringing my own phone if I buy it through Apple? VZW claims they waive their upgrade or activation fee (although it is not activating a new line) if I order it online. Any thoughts?

it's the same exact phone because verizon gets their stock from apple.
I think verizon has a restocking fee if you want to exchange it for a different color or size, apple has no restocking fee.

Were I you I would get it at the Verizon Store. Usually phone providers add apps to make it easier to access account information too.

Apple does not allow verzion to preload anything...
even if it did, I guess downloading the verizon app from the app store is too difficult?
Buying from the apple store also makes it easy to buy apple care without an addition visit/call if you want accidental damage protection...
OP if you can wait a few more weeks, as soon as the new iphone is released the old ones will be cheaper..

Though there is no difference between the iPhone from Verizon Wireless & Apple Store. But you should buy it from Apple store because it is the rightful authority.

Does this mean that you willl buy phones from both Verizon Wireless & Apple Store? If you have extra and don't use it, could you gift it to me?

Thanks.

Call and ask what happens during the warranty period will they give you a new phone or send it out for repair, I think there is a difference but cannot recall the advantage.

Don't forget to look at refurbished and trade in.

Seems that I will be charged a $20 upgrade fee by going through Apple. If I get it through VZW online, they will waive it.

I decided to go with Apple even with the $20 upgrade fee that VZW will charge me. The main reasons for buying through Apple instead of VZW: quicker shipping (although I could have picked it up at my local VZW but I don't really have time); and a price protection. An Apple support person told me that if the price drops within 14 days of the shipment date, I would call Apple and they will refund me the difference (my credit card does have this too so maybe I can double dip). The new iPhones will be announced on 9/7 (not confirmed). usually, they drop the prices the day of the announcement. any way, thanks for everyone's ideas.
