thankfully this is being sold by Adorama which charges tax in NY and this makes this deal less slick for me, and saves me a fight with my wife.
Almost purchased until I realized it wasn't curved.

I'm wondering if the backlight bleed is reduced in this version over the more expensive cousin. There was no way I was going to keep it for $1k with that much backlight bleed when I first got it a few months ago. Even the two Korean 27in and 30in monitors from eBay had less bleed.

i dont know, you would have to see them side by side but i also wonder if this varies specific unit to unit

I"m hoping some SDers may chime in. Others have reported light bleed issues as well and I've seen online some get lesser bleed but it's still bad compared to say a similar Dell.

Funny I told myself when I got the original LG 34in 1440p version that the backlight bleed was accepted for under $600 but not at $1k. I think recently that monitor hit around $600ish. If they resolved the backlight issue on this model it's tempting as I dont care about thunderbolt ports.

I have the older one I picked up on eBay for $499 last fall and I called LG about the ips glow/ light bleed and they sent a technician out with a new panel... after he installed it I was in love ! no bleed for me just pure 1440p goodness. just a thought if anyone wants to take a chance on it

Newb question. If you want resolution, wouldnt people choose 4K monitors over this? Besides people wanting a specific resolution, what other reasons why people would choose this over 4K monitors?

This 1440p monitor you can run games on with 1 r9 390 a 4k you would need 2 of them.

I've got the new 34" LG UC88 with the curve and I have to say that it's not worth the $150 premium over a flat screen. In fact, I find it a little bothersome. Sure, it looks cool when it's off and you're looking at it from a distance. But when I'm using it, there are many times when I see the edges protruding out and say to myself "oh shoot, I have to realign my monitor" before I remember that it's curved. Also, I noticed that straight lines are distorted if the monitor is not at exact eye level. (i.e. when you're looking down or up at the monitor, a straight line will look like a curve.) It's not too bothersome, but we're talking about paying a premium here, not getting a discount.

As for games, it does help a little bit for the immersion factor. But I'd have to place curvy monitors as more of a gimmick than an essential.

Just bought one. It's silly to pay hundreds more for a curve and 100Hz considering they all have the same picture. LG IPS panels are in all these monitors. Might as well sit on this bad boy until OLED/HDR/4K 1440Hz are reasonably priced.
