I'll give you 3 options.

1) Get Cutequeen from Amazon. As low as $13/KG.
2) Get Excelvan from Ebay. As low as $9/KG.
3) Get MG Chemicals $5 quarter KG spools from Frys. More expensive but a cheap way to get a lot of colors.

That's actually expensive. Those are only 200g rolls so it's $25/KG. Might as well splashout for Hatchbox on Amazon.

It's a tool. So it's only "completely and utterly useless" if the person using it is.
I preemptively replaced my stock power supply. Never showed any signs of failing, but better safe than sorry. You can get original Xbox 360 power adapters from Gamestop for $15 that work just fine with some quick modding.

I have a Maker Select (Wanhao i3) - any reason or need to get this?

Oh no doubt, I was just trying to justify buying another toy. My Maker Select is all modded and prints nicely. I didn't know if there was some compelling reason why I need another printer.

Also picked one up a few weeks back. I normally despise all things Monoprice but this thing is awesome.

Be prepared to buy a new power supply, hack a power supply to work with this, or open up the provided power supply and solder on new capacitors. The power supplies on these are extremely low quality and have the highest rate of failure I think I've ever seen in a power supply. In the MP Select group I'm a part of, it seems like we have at least a 33% failure rate, if not greater.

I bought this 3 weeks ago too. It's not powered on 2 days ago. Not sure the power ac adapter or the machine is dead.

This is a toy for beginner. The print quality is not that great. Cura software is not that great as well.
