FYI these can be used for a lot more than just video game capture. I use one (different brand but essentially the same Chinese product) to eliminate the 30 minute recording limit from my SLR.

Kinda intriguing, especially the SLR usage. I guess you tether a laptop to the SLR with HDMI out?

You can use an hdmi splitter to err correct the signal and have this unit record video from any hdmi source in h.264 format.

Does it decrypt the encrypted stuff? I haven't followed the scene for quite some time, but I remember there were devices that can strip HDCP or something like that.

I did some search back than, watch out for noticeable audio out of sync issue when recording more than an hour. It would get worse and worse afterwards. Seems to happen on all similar devices regardless the brands.

this won't strip out hdcp. you'll have to put something before it to do the stripping.

Good find! Just beware of shipping. The "ultra saver" free shipping says it's going to take 3 weeks to get here. So I went ahead and bumped it up. Though even if you do next day by 10:30AM, it is $1 cheaper than Amazon and no tax, so still saving money.

Amazon.com has the Avermedia Live Gamer Extreme GC550 on sale for $119.74 with free shipping.

$60 off selling price (34%) the reg price of $179.99

I've used both card and Avermedia GC550 has a lower latency than the Elgato HD60S.
