GTX 745 and 300W power supply. No SSD? No thanks.

You could build this for less than $500

I have a $25 off coupon for Costco, it expires on 8/31/16. Can only be used one time, and on purchase of $250 or more at costco.com. I am not going to use it before expiration, and willing to trade for a $5 Amazon gift card. PM me if interested.

Fry's sells Win 10 Home /same as this one/ for $88 pretty much daily. This CPU / it's non K/ is around $200, the mobo is less than $60, basic case with power supply /same as here/ is around $30-40, and a 1-2 TB hdd is $50. Keyboard , mouse etc is complete HP junk and can be had for $1-2 at any web site.

While you probably can't build an identical system for $500, I think you could build better overall performance for cheaper or same.

1. Get an i5, not i7.
2. Go for 16GB, most users don't need 32GB. You can upgrade later.
3. Get an SSD. Even a value 250GB model will blow a hard drive out of the water.
4. Use onboard graphics. The GTX 745 is basically worthless in modern games. If you were to find good deals, you could possibly fit a 1060 3GB or RX470 into the budget.
5. Get a bigger hard drive. 3-4TB for around $100 is definitely realistic. 1TB is pretty paltry.

It's not a very good system. You can't build it though for 500. The poster forgot to add in the value of 32gb of ddr4.

Problem areas. Terrible power supply. Woefully underpowered graphics card. No SSD and a small size mechanical drive. The proc is a non k version as well.

From quick google search:
32GB DDR4 is $125 here [newegg.com]. Maybe $500 is a bit of a stretch but still...

i7-6700: $259 here [jet.com]. Less if you pay with debit card.

Jet.com, and Fry's regularly has it on sale for $198 for daily deals.

The memory is around $80, basic no heatsink DDR4 is often less than $40 for 16GB.
You really don't need 32GB ram on a system like this. It is not a workstation.
The video card I don't even consider, latest integrated Intel graphics is actually faster than that NVidia. There was a deal on Dell desktop with i7 CPU similar configuration for around $600 recently, I recall.

Indeed, you can build yourself much better balanced system for less money.

i5-6500, I would not bother for the K and overclocking, and it comes with its fan. Unless you run a movie editing studio, you don't need more.
Asus Z170 - any motherboard your choice of features and price between $100 and $200
128 or 256 SSD NMme on the mobo m.2 slot, and your choice of 1-2TB for around $60 HDD
Seasonic Gold rated 650W PSU - practically noiseless, super stable and long warranty.
Your choice of case between $20-60.
Win 10 Home on sale at Fry's for $88. You don't need the Pro for single gaming computer.
Whatever money you can spend on GPU with minimum GTX1060 6GB or Radeon 480 8GB vram. $200+

That's your nice gaming computer.

The people arguing against $500...the mic's being dropped on you - accepting reality is not easy

$849 is too much for this configuration...It's not a good deal - 300W, 745, non-K, non-SSD cmon, only good thing worth a compliment is the 32GB, even though / which is overkill

I've seen it one day door buster at $198.
You can get the K online for around $290-300

I see no point to argue, even at this very moment Lenovo outlet has M900 refurbished workstations with 32GB RAM, 2*256GB SSDs USB C WinPro i7-6700 for around $750-$800.
One year in house warranty.
400W PSU - enough so you can add GTX1060 for example and have complete game/work station.

The HP in this deal is indeed pathetic, motherboard is cheap, the HP consumer PSUs ALWAYS fail
