Amazon 3rd Party Merchant Policy
We here at Slickdeals are constantly striving to offer the best shopping experience for our community. To that end, many of you may know that our Moderators and Quality Assurance folks vet the authenticity of our most popular deals, so you can cut down on clutter and get to the slickest deals.

We felt the need to re-implement the rule due to the increase in spam after its removal.

New Policy: 1K plus Seller Rating
Starting today, We'll remove any threads posted by members for 3rd party Amazon merchants that have less than a 1K Seller Rating. Regardless whether fulfilled by Amazon or not.

3rd Party Merchants must have over a 1K Lifetime Seller Rating.
The product for sale must have at least 50 reviews.
DEs and Slickdeals Staff have the discretion to post deals from sellers with lower rating. This will only happen after they have thoroughly vetted the merchant. Moving forward once they have been posted by the DEs or SD Staff then we know they have been vetted and members are free to post them as well. If a merchant is large enough/well known, mods have the discretion to allow it even if the product does not have 50 product reviews.

Please No Self-Promotion
Please keep in mind that self-promotion rules are still in effect, so business owners, employees, or agencies should please refrain from posting and voting on their own deals or asking members to post or vote for you. Rather, we encourage you to message a moderator or staff member to learn about other ways of working together with Slickdeals.

As always, mods have the right to remove threads at their discretion if they feel shilling is happening within.

We welcome any feedback, comments, and questions below. Thank you!

What about the paid promotions from your own staff? All that deals from tanga, cheapo cases from monoprice and recently coupon deals from amazon posted by your staff
It is laughable

And how exactly do you "vet merchants" and what are these "other ways of working together with Slickdeals"?

When merchants reach out to us and want a relationship we always ask them what they have to offer our members. It's always about our members. We turn away a lot of merchants who either don't offer deals low enough for our membership or items that we've had lower many times before... this happens a lot.

Some people want cheap cases. For every person complaining about cheap cases or cheap whatevers.. there is someone else saying "no one needs a $500 watch".
What makes a slickdeal is the savings.

Vetting a merchant means that we check them out and talk to them making sure they know our rules and start off on the right footing. Many new merchants are good guys who want to do things the right way. Some just don't know what that is. It can help if we have a chance to really explain that shilling is not allowed..no shill votes or posts etc. And what the consequences will be if they get caught.

Other ways of working with us can be things like buying ad space, either on the site or in a newsletter, the giveaway etc.

So basically you are saying that you want to get paid via ad space or other means..

And if it is always about the members then why do you put all the crap from tanga on FP right away, I can show you 10 threads where newbies buy it and then come right back to the thread with different complaints

And if it is always about the members then why did you delete all the freebie deals from amazon merchants. If cheap cases cant hurt anyone, then how come freebies hurt anyone.

I am not against all this.. all I want you guys to do is stop pretending like it is about the members. We are the commodity you are selling to merchants, plain and simple.

We do offer ad space, most sites do. We have a site to run and it's not free.
We FP things that members have voted up. If something has done very well in the past (and especially if more than once in the past) then sure, we may FP it more quickly than a new item that we might let marinate longer.

Some freebies can hurt the community IF they come from shills. If it's free but the catch is it's from a merchant paying someone to post for them and then paying members (or making new accounts) to post up the deal or vote it up...just to get either credibility in our community or to get rating on their site then it does hurt our community very much.

My last post on this thread as I know you are not going to publicly admit what you do

How does it hurt the members if they are getting something for free, I have received some of those items after seeing them on SD and they have been much better than expected. The only reason I see is that you guys get pissed that the merchant is "not buying as space"

And I have seen the pattern on the lousy stuff from tanga and others who "buy ad space". One mod will post the deal. It will get lots of TU with no posts at all or posts saying lousy merchant and what not. And in hardly any time, another mod will make it FP.

Do what you have to do to earn money but at least be honest about it. And dont disrespect your users by all this mumbo jumbo, we are not that stupid that we can't see the pattern in how you promote deals from the merchants that "buy ad space".

Feel free to delete the post if it upsets you but it is my last post on this thread, I dont know why I even bother

I am not going to delete your post and not going to be goaded into it laugh out loud
I just explained how it hurts the community and there are plenty of members who I know agree with what I pointed out because they have said it themselves in the past.

We have lots of members who mod alert those shilly merchants.

Now, that's not saying that all freebies are from shilling merchants. You asked how any free items can be bad and I explained that.

Some free items are wonderful, we love them too.
This is why we're working to make a fair way to try and cut off a baseline where we tend to find most shills (many of the newer 3rd party merchants) but still allow in the ones who are wanting to come in and do it the right way.. to take the time to learn our rules. To hear the reasons why shilling hurts our site and their name as well. To learn how it can be a positive thing to come in, offer a decent deal and let the members vote honestly on a good product.
That builds them up the right way and then it's a win all around.

I really do like to see a small merchant come in and do well with our member. Our members find a new place to get a good price and the merchant gets to grow their business. Being a part of that is wonderful.

Also, it stands to reason that merchants who do well here like to find new ways to keep their name in front of your eyes so sure.. some merchants who end up with a lot of sales here might also tend to then buy ads or sponsor the giveaway etc. But in no way do we ever promote deals to the frontpage for money.

I am confused about the policy with shills (or whatever these certain situations may be called...??).

There are so many deal posts by staff, mods, or de, where I have been emailed by the seller asking to go upvote the deal, comment on it, or have been asked to post deals for them.

Now, apparently the new thing to do is to send out these "share a deal" emails from SD which ALWAYS link to a shill post and ALWAYS come from some random SD member that I have never heard of or seen previously.

These sellers are using SD for self promotion via spamming members with emails that come straight from SD. The funny part is that the emails do not even go to the address associated with my SD account, which is my main email account. They go to the email associated with my Amazon reviews account, which happens to be the same email that the sellers use to contact me to post their deals or comment on them and upvote them. It doesn't take much brain power to connect the dots.

The requests to post deals, comment, upvote, etc., come in daily and so many of them offer to pay, offer extra free items, etc.

Some members may not even realize what is going on with these types of deals and may not be aware that these sellers solicit SD users and Amazon reviewers to post for them and offer to pay for it. Most of it is complete crap anyway and you are not getting a deal. If its a buck or two for the "deal" then you might as well just go to AliExpress and get a dozen of them for the same price.

It seems like it is ok for SD to do the shilling, but not the members, and I do not want to believe that this is the case. I assume because of whatever agreement you make with the seller to share profit, it makes it ok for SD to do the shilling directly, perhaps you consider it something other than shilling, though, but it is just as bad as a member doing it because those same sellers are still soliciting us to upvote, comment and share the deal on facebook, post on youtube, etc., etc.,even after one of the mods or staff posts it. So, either SD as a whole approves it, or the mods/staff, de's are doing it on their own and directly taking the pay from the seller.

Its shady no matter if SD posts it or a member posts it - the shady stuff goes on no matter which one posts it. Some SD members may get in on the deal simply because "staff posted it, so it must be good," and not realize that it really isn't a deal. The persons benefiting are the seller and SD. Its so easy to sell off those dollar deals and everyone knows it... people will pay a buck or two many times a week on a "deal" because, whats a buck or two...and the beneficiaries never change. The customer/member will realize at some point, after spending hundreds of dollars one by one or two by two, that all they've got is a pile of junk to show for it while others involved have all those dollars.

Its easier to find 100 people to spend 2 dollars than to find 2 people to spend 100 and these types of "deals" shark after those 100 people.

Sorry to ramble so much about it, but I see it going on and it is disappointing that SD has evolved this way and it is annoying because some of these sellers are absolutely relentless and send multiple emails a day and they want all these requests fulfilled and just expect that people should just want to do this and promote their crap. I delete, like I am sure many others do, and then get on SD and see the items from these sellers being posted as deals and then I get the emails from SD telling me my "friend wanted to share a deal" with me. Mofo's aren't my friends and i'd like to stab them in the eye.

That is all.

If you are getting emails from sellers, especially ones posted by SD staff forward them to info@slickdeals.net and they will be looked into. SD has banned a lot of sellers for that practice and it definitely isn't allowed or endorsed by SD.

I forwarded some last week and never heard anything back. I also sent a separate email with info and usernames, etc., and again never received a reply.

I am getting these emails as well. On items I've shown 'interest' in before in other threads, so not sure if it's an sd source or amazon source but they will come 5 at a time, different fake looking email adresses but with all working sd and related links, to the same shilled thread on sd.

So many of the typical items (phone cases, led's, portable batteries etc) are suspect and it's unfortunate as either people will shy away from using sd, or have no idea and buy the sometimes pretty crappy stuff. ;(

Example - the thread is still up for some reason

Once again, let us know about these. If it's a forum PM, Mod Alert it. If it's an e-mail or some other method of communication, feel free to email it to info@slickdeals.net as BostonGirl mentioned above. Even if you don't get a response, trust me when I say that these are checked out. Sometimes action is swift, and other times it is taken slowly, as we like to have our data in order when we take action. Either way, many on the QAs and Mods enjoy purging heretics shills with fire.

I'll say that I'm personally happy with the new rule going back into effect (Note that we've gone back and forth on this rule). By and large, during the workday it seemed (As I don't have metrics) that often stores with less than 1000 rating on Amazon would be shilled more often than not, and we'd end up removing the thread. The 1000 rating isn't an ideal solution to shills, but it's one additional barrier that requires investment (in time and money) on behalf of the merchant to acquire those 1000 reviews, so that should the merchant shill, then they have more to lose when we suspend/ban them, rather than merely creating a new store/account on Amazon.

As usual, speaking off the cuff, I don't speak for the company, independent contractor, personal opinion, etc etc.

I mod alerted that thread, actually. I got several emails from SD for that one, too, as the "your friend wanted to share this deal with you," emails. I forwarded those emails and wrote a separate email. The thread is still there.

I handle info emails. Please send them again as I always reply so ..wondering if they didn't make it to info@slickdeals.net
Add as much info as you can, screenshots, forwarding their emails so I have their addresses, and whatever company they are and what threads they as you to vote on or post for. All of they helps us.
Ahh.. I did find your email. I had forwarded one of your last ones on and my apologies as one never made it through the system to me but upon a search it popped up. Let me look into what's happening with that one.
