Should positive votes add points to the OP's rep?

Marmotto 473 August 26, 2016 at 06:08 PM
Hello Slickdealers, I have a question I'd like to get some opinions on.

Should a positive vote on a deal thread add points to the original poster's reputation count?

This would be similar to the way the "I Bought This" button works in Classic View but would be applied to any Redesign or Classic thumb up action.

Any objections or concerns to that? Is there any reason you'd ever want to thumb up a deal and not give the poster rep?

Thanks!

I like this idea Smilie I think it will give deal posters more recognition for their efforts and make reputation a more valuable score that is tied closer to the popularity/success of deals that the user posted, rather than any arbitrary reason.

It also makes things more convenient, because lots of users don't even know how to give rep, or remember to.

With it, we may have to relax the maximum number of reps you can give a day, where currently there is a limit. Perhaps we give 1 reputation along with a vote, but manually added reps are worth more too.

How about also automatically giving rep for when a user votes a comment helpful?

Kinda torn on this one. On the one had I'd have more reps but then so would everyone. I kinda like that a person has to take a bit of effort to rep. When you see a person who has more reps then posts that really means something to me. If we changed just about everyone who post deals would have more reps than posts and it wouldn't mean anything then.

At first I though, yes it should.. but then I though about this question some more and I think the answer should be no. Voting yes would just inflate their reputation, and it begs the question of whether they really earned it. Keep it the way it is. Users WILL rep a good deal. Leave the choice up to them.

I vote no with the caveat that the "I bought this" button be returned with its previous functionality. Otherwise yes, I feel like it's the next best thing.

I have better idea - create money making program. SD users who post best deals (that often reach FP) will get some cash for their efforts? It'll make a lot of people post better deals (hopefully) Smilie

I vote yes. It's simpler.
Also add poll here.

So the op's that post a too good to be true deal that gets cancelled the next day could get 100's of reps for a bogus post

Yes, but OPs should not be able to vote on their own posts.

I like this so that I don't have to give two separately. Alternatively, give an option to user to give rep or not automatically. Some kind of setting in profile.

Hate to be "that guy" but how is this a deal? Not opposed to the idea though.

Can we also have -1 for TD votes? We should implement a way to punish idiots who use MM or PM in the OP.

edit:
nvm, we actually have great deals with -40 votes and scam deals with +86 votes.

edit2: Better idea attached.
