very nice printer built nearly identical to the Brother HL-L2340D and HL-L2360DW printers and uses almost identical toner (TN-660, with different gear).... and a steal a $40, especially if you have store rewards to use up.

How did you find this information? I have a light use for this but dont want to end up replacing the printer once toner is done. So all dell printers are made by brother? how much would be initial page yield with the starting toner?

Last year when this Dell was first $39.99, there was some discussion as to value, because there were no generic Dell toners available for it then and OEM toners were more expensive than the printer. I knew Dell doesn't make there own printers (AFAIK) and they have used Brother or Lexmark in the past, sometime changing only the name. So I compared it visually to other Brothers and noticed the front panel (buttons, LCD, LEDs) was exactly the same as the L2340DW and L2360DW, though the whole printer's not 100% match with any of them (closest in specs to HL-L2340dw). Next step was figuring if the toners were the same. Some other brave soul volunteered first and tried the Brother TN-660 in the Dell, as they appeared to be the same. It fit... but didn't work. On closer inspection he noticed the one gear that engages with the Dell printer wasn't connecting because it was a smaller version of the gear on the Brother cartridge (ie. they're different sizes). So the easy fix was swapping gears on the toner, and it worked.

Though I'd rather use a cheaper Brother TN-660 and switch the gear that's different between the two.

It is not bad but people prefer all-in-one laser B&W printer with scan and copy by adding $20 more.
